I also would have accepted:
Puljujarvi
Laine
Chychrun
Tkachuk
or
McLeod
All of the above would look very good in orange and black. |

So would Max Jones who I would put ahead of McLeod at this point, which is very early. |

That's Brad Jones' boy, correct?
Hopefully he has his father's wheels, but not his hands!

So Morin is a bad pick because he's not in the NHL yet. Morin was drafted in 2013. He spent last year back in Juniors, and is in the AHL this year. He may need a 2nd AHL season or partial season.
Not to compare Morin in any way.
PK Subban was drafted in 2007. He spent 2008 back in juniors, and spent 2009 in the AHL, before making the NHL full time in 2010.
Duncan Keith was drafted in 2002. He spent 02/03 back in Juniors, and then needed 2 AHL seasons before finally making the Hawks full time in 05.
Ryan Suter was drafted in 03. He spent 03/04 in college hockey, and 04/05 in the AHL, before making the NHL in 05/06.
Just a few players, and examples. Why the rush to judgement with the Morin pick?

I really wish Vinny could still play. I think this team could benefit from some veteran leadership.
On the plus side, Drew Brees gets me 7 td passes and counting in fantasy football.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you on your view of Jake, last season was the only time he ever looked like an 8 million dollar player in his entire career. It wasn't until last season that he finally put all those tools together and be the player we all know he can be. - SuperSchennBros
But he doesn't get 8 million this season. So he still has time to work it out.
But I guess new contract put pressure on him and last year Raffl helped a lot to get
Voracek to great numbers as he intuitively knew as a European trained player where
Voracek will next. That worked last year because Raffl was a below the radar player.
2015/16 Raffl is a different player. All teams rank him now as 20 goal/Top Line player
And did run Analytics about him. |

I don't think he's a bust. It would be unfair to say that at this point. Really unfair to Morin who I think is a good, hard working kid. But, he was definitely a project. Maybe too big a project at number 11. Here's the issue - if you are picking number 11, do you want to take someone who is such a project? If someone told you right after they picked Morin, that in 2015, he still would not have played an NHL game, you would have been ok with that? I wouldn't have been. If you would have been ok with it, I guess we have a different way of looking at things. As far as your comparisons are concerned, Subban and Keith were both second round picks. Morin was picked at 11. Suter was a higher pick than Morin, but played college hockey and far fewer games than a Canadien junior player. Even taking that into account, he was in the NHL by his third year. Morin is in his third year after being drafted already and is in the AHL.

In my opinion, if Vinny is gonna put up any type of reasonable numbers, this is his best opportunity. If I'm being honest, I thought Vinny started off 14/15 well, got hurt and dropped off in his return. Showed some flash in about 4 games on the fourth line and jumped off a clip again, even though I felt that small bit of flash might have warranted a small leash with more talented players. I'm not expecting much but it is put up or shut up time. I didn't see Vinny getting much of the opportunity he's about to get but I do understand this very well could be his last real chance. |
