I caught the last period of oilers/flames last night. I cant remember the last time i watched the oilers play. They looked good as well. I predict Sabres Oilers SCF in a few years. Then Bettman can finally complete his death star and rule the universe.

Yeah, talbot let in the game winner with less than 10 seconds from behind the goal line. If we put 50 shots on that team every game, pucks could go in. I was also looking forward to Lernher playing a full season so Murray could evaluate exactly where he is as a starter. Hoping he's one of those players that gets back sooner rather than later. Though, i know the high ankle sprain is a tough injury for goalies. |

For the most part our team stats are vastly improved. Can't wait to see what they look like - and the accompanying results - once we have the full team on the ice - including Lehner. |

FWIW if we win tonight and Bolts lose we are 2 points behind them in the standings. I was hoping we could get get over half the available points for the month of November...then I looked at our schedule. Stars x2, Preds x2, Sharks, Nucks, Blues x2, Wings, Cats, Bolts.
Yikes.

No real complaints with how the season has started. Goaltending is no worse than I expected. Would like to see them right the PK ship sooner rather than later. |

Here's my problem with advanced stats in hockey. The number of presumptions piled on top of presumptions without any real checks to ensure reliability lead to completely unreliable data.
We presume that if we get alot of shots, a good number of them will go in. But there's no check to measure whether its a quality shot or just an easy wrister into the goalie's glove.
We presume that if a good number of the shots go in, we will win the game, but there's not check to measure whether the d is any good or not.
We believe that if we limit the number of shots taken against us, then fewer will go in, and we will win.
But - as this article points out - we have great shots for (but no "finish"), and good shots against, but we have a LOOSING RECORD. There's so much more to the game of hocket thnan just shooting, and maybe its all that other stuff - now rather derogatorily described as "the eyeball test" - that dictates as much or more whether a team will actually win. |

There are stats for that and we out- scoring chance the other team almost every game. Lack of finish is seriously a problem. |

Not true at all.
Even if Lehner can live up to us giving away a 1st round draft pick for him... then we win and Murray is justified.
If he doesn't like I am sure most feel that he won't, well then Murray lost a deal.
I understand he won't win them all nor do I expect him to.
I just want him to slow down, breath in and out a couple 20 times before he makes deals like that again however.
But hey, that's just me. |

You're looking at too small of a data set. Think back two years ago when the Leafs had terrible advanced stats through 20ish games. The status guys said that their winning was not sustainable and sure enough they were right.

People also predicted a regression from Calgary (their shooting and save percentages were ridiculously high) this year and Colorodo before them. Even La last year you can look at and see that they had great advanced statistics but got super unluckyand had a terrible record in the shoutout and overtime |

That's kinda the point, isnt it. Who wants to have to do a homework assignment to watch a hockey game. |
