Cracknell is a good 13th, depth forward. Sven is a waste of a 2nd round pick and NHL roster spot - PetrolSexual
Agree Cracknell could be a good press box guy but is starting to appear that Baertchi might be the odd man out there. Doesn't even look like Baertchi could replace Higgins right now. He has a few weeks at best IMO as once Higgy gets back in it could be Utica time for Baertchi. I'm willing to bet Baertchi lost sleep over the Virtanen decision as he should. Time to start plugging the net. |

makes you wonder what happened to sven. He was doing so well last season in AHL that he was a lock for the team. Wtf happened? |

Im also thinking he was playing with JV and had good chemistry with him. Maybe JV opens space for him to play his game. |

Could be another Weise situation where he just isn't cut out to play in the west. I'm sure there is an Eastern team that would bite on him. JB would have to be shrewd tho... |

Yes. Or maybe a conditioning stint in Utica for Sven until he finds the net a bit? |

"WELCOME TO THE TEAM BOYS!"
It's official: Virtanen and McCann are Canucks and I am happy!

Such a short sighted move with Virtanen.
Only thing he has done is finish his checks. Guy should be back in junior developing his offensive game.

Funny that the defensive issues are what keeps getting pointed out. I thought the book on McCann was that he's a solid two-way centre. I get that there is an adjustment to the NHL, but if he was responsible in junior, I'm sure he will be able to be at NHL level. Size and strength will take time. Hope to see Jake get a goal against the Flyers. |

Not sure that Virtanen would develop his offensive game more against 17 year olds. - bazz
He wouldn't. He fills a massive need for our club it's only a matter of time before pucks start going in for him. He will make his own luck. |

In MO, I think he would dominate at that level and learn nothing.
These kids have character as well as skill. Looking forward to this season now. I don't really acre if they make the playoffs as long as they were establishing their future without tanking and it looks like they are. |

Don't forget that the Canucks can still change their mind and send either or both back to junior if they choose to. It's just their FA status that changes as the first year of the ELC will be eaten once they play their 10th game. - 1970vintage
This is both true and false. Yes they can still be sent back to junior, but, their 10th game played doesn't change their "free agent" status, it simply burns the first year of their ELC. It's their 40th game that really matters.

Yes... this 9 game thing is really media driven to be more important than it is... it is still important though but not as much as they hype it. They make it sound like the absolute drop dead date.
