This is both true and false. Yes they can still be sent back to junior, but, their 10th game played doesn't change their "free agent" status, it simply burns the first year of their ELC. It's their 40th game that really matters.

One other note on the nine-game threshold. It doesn't change a players' UFA status until he has played 40 games, but by engaging the first year of the contract, it still starts the clock on his three-year entry-level deal, meaning he'll be up for negotiation as a restricted free agent one year sooner than if he went back to junior.

I'm OK with that cost if the player is bringing something on ice. I think McCann and Virtanen are doing that.

@ThomasDrance: It's kind of amazing how much space Yannick Weber opens up on the #Canucks' 1st power-play unit: https://t.co/MwiuAzSBWv via @CanucksArmy.

It's amazing how much space Weber opens up in his zone when he's on the ice. Didn't he help lose the past two overtime games as well?

If we lack a shot from the point so much, why not go with 4 F and 1 D??

Hutton is good on the second line power play I wouldn't take him off, id put McCann with horvat and JV and sutter down low instead of burrows on the first unit.

works for me, although i just read the link i was referring to and see Drance's point about Weber opening up options on the PP and defenders needing to respect his shot.
I think we can all agree that it is time to get McCan and JV out of the PP though.
Maybe keep Sutter and Burrows and Hansen for PK duties.

Is Naked Grape really better than Copper Moon? I haven't tried Naked Grape yet. Copper Moon is drinkable though.

I think people were complaining last year on how calgary was using virtanen. So this kind of makes sense.

The problem is they don't go to the AHL and learn under Coach Green, so you have to keep them up. Shink is a good example of someone who can go there and learn even if he is outplaying JV. As he can develop in the Canucks AHL org. they are happy.

I have always thought it would be good to have an affiliation with a Euro club - for example one that Naslund is managing, or some place where a canuck legacy is influential. Then you have a third option ie. not the AHL, not the NHL, but Swedish Elite league living in Tomas Gradin's basement.

Players who voted yes to the last bargaining agreement and had a few years under their belts are the ones losing their jobs now. The guys who made out are the guys just coming into the league, like the young players on ELCs or the top players.

All those players in the middle got screwed, they can't even find a decent home in Europe.

Biggest thing on the PP is placement and movement of the right hand shot. We have not been effective with this since Salo left so I am all in favor of putting a FWD RHS on the point if it makes sense. What would happen to Weber though?

@ThomasDrance: ICYMI this weekend: https://t.co/MwiuAzSBWv It will be hard to remove Yannick Weber from the #Canucks' lineup. https://t.co/oD5gwLDUzD

I don't get the obsession with Weber. Piece should be called: Woody for Weber: A Canucks Army Fantasy.

The piece says that the Canucks first unit was generating a ton of chances in the first few games, but was snakebit. Then it says since Weber joined, they have three goals in four games. It then goes to explain that two of the goals have nothing to do with Weber. Then it says Jamie Benn was afraid of Weber's shot. How is this an argument for Weber?
