True. I see Justin Bailey or Nick Baptiste taking his role in a year or two. At the moment, he certainly is a nice complimentary player. I guess we'll see what Murray thinks of him come the deadline. - TheSabresTaco
if he demands that kind of money i would rather plug in one of them or pick up someone off the UFA list to fill the role that costs less. |

If he you guys are being a bubble playoff team contender, he will be a needed cog to try and push for a spot so he stays, if you skunk it up in the 2nd half, it will be selling off pieces time.

McGinn and Legwand are both in that category.. i know legwand wont get much but if we pay some salary and he keeps playing the way he is we could get a pick for him. |

No not a trap. Just don't get the skewed logic sometimes.
I think Colorado assumed that the 20 and 22 year Olds might take a little time - sbroads24
I agree. I don't see Grigs getting much better, but it's always possible. Z is the prize there, but Patrick Roy told Avs website re: N. Zadorov: "Z is a long-term project for us".
Curious to see what kind of player he becomes. I definitely wish him the best. Kid definitely needed some AHL time. |

I disagree with Grigs, he has shown some real skill in his limit time, hes getting more and more ice time and responsibility. Slow process with him but you can see steady improvement in his game. Hes on the 2nd PP unit now.
Zads im torn about, want him to develop but dont want him in the AHL. They have Bigras down in the AHL getting huge minutes and being a beast for the Rampage. They are really building taking their time with Bigras. Right now its seems that Roy is testing Gormley in the Top 4 role instead of Zads, I dont think he wants both in at the same time so he can really get a feel of what the have with Gorms.
This whole season feels like a write off and really is all about building for next season once they have the roster flexibility to do some real changes |

Admittedly I don't get to see much of the Avs, so I can't disagree. I'd like to see Grigorenko's growth show up on the scoresheet once the Avs start playing like they should be able to on paper. My assessment is derived from the idea that Grigorenko's value is most closely related to the score sheet. He's not a PK guy or really a possession driver, he's not much of a shooter and he doesn't play the brute game. Another 10 games of the same, and I think this season definitely becomes a write off for the Avs and you can start toying around with your lineup to get guys in the best place to develop.
That's something we definitely did last year with guys like Larsson, Schaller, Girgensons and Risto. |

I do agree, but when Roy is putting McLeod with Duchene and Skille with MacKinnon at times bc he likes their "jam" in trying to get a goal to tie things up, hes not using a guy like Grigo and his assets properly.
He should be the one getting tossed into those roles since out of all the guys in the Bottom 6 he is the most offensively gifted, just Roy likes to reward his foot soldiers with that sort of bump in the depth chart instead using what seems like logical bench management moves such as moving Grigo up instread.
So its encouraging to see him finally crack some PP time working on the 2nd unit today. |

I think they prefer "escort". At least according to Hollywood, and they're right about everything always.

No he hasnt been a bust, hes been solid for almost every game he played so far, had a rough last 2, Roy sat him as more of a take a breather kid sort of move.
Its just impatient fans who want the same impact return that you guys have with ROR. Since Zads and Grigo are not top in the league, some people are crying about it. As Sakic and Roy said, those 2 are projects. They are going to take their time and build them into the players they think they can be, not just throw them out there hoping to succeed.
Im getting a little impatient since they have been solid in limit roles, I would like to see the training wheels taken off Grigo, not so much Zads since hes been one of the best Dmen on the team since EJ and Barrie have been really underwhelming so far this season - DDM-Coga
You and me both, brother. I think that's where the "lazy Russian" stereotype comes in to play. He needs to play with skilled players to get going, but a lot will say he has to "earn it", and while I agree with that he also has to be given an opportunity to earn it. |

this was a good read. Crazy stat people make my head spin, but this basically showed that all 3 are just different types of players. Domi and Eichel seem a little similar. McDavid is more a pure offesnive talent.
