It would have to involve Eichel. They might consider a package of something like Reinhart and Risto but I doubt it. Either way it would have to be kids and not vets. - Slump Buster
So I understand his "value" but it all depends on who would pay it. No one is paying that for a rental (and no assurance that he resigns).
It comes down to leverage and TB would be out of leverage when it comes down to trading deadline (or so I would think, but the St Louis trade to NYR surprised me on the return they could get).
I was thinking Sabres and Stamkos being signed as a FA more than a trade. |

...in other words, it's not happening. Yes Stamkos is an elite talent, but why create holes to add another piece? - bmhumby
No way I trade any of those 3 players for him (and TB certainly wants something like that in return). |

Just saw the gwg... I'm so glad people wanted to ship out Legwand for a bag of pucks.
He's still got some gas left in the tank.
And unlike E. Kane, Sam can hit the net with a shot. |

Right, no reason to make that trade as the future #1 center is on the roster. 3 years ago I make that trade. |

I have to admit, I was one of those guys. Murray didn't even want him.

I love reading the comments section daily on my lunch break. Everyone has an MO and you know what you're getting daily! This goes great with soup and a sandwich. It's like a wonderfully terrible sitcom. - kactusjakk

I think you've got McGinn in mind, they mentioned Legwand (though he did have 40 in 13/14)
EDIT: nm, I see a split season. I didn't even realize Legwand had done that well so recently, I thought it was McGinn who had been the better one |

Forgot to mention the other day, was glad we beat Neuvirth. That felt like it was the classic case of Buffalo losing to it's former player. |

Sure, but we have pretty much 0 goaltending and defense depth.
Imagine if Ristolainen went down? Do we have anywhere near him? And he isn't exactly a premier defensemen (Yet) - sbroads24
It's great to have depth but you can't really replace your top defenseman. Chicago is pretty average without Keith. When a superstar is injured you just have to hope to get by while they're out. |

While I agree, my point is that Risto is not at that level yet (like Keith) but he still is irreplaceable.

for those wondering about the sabres depth on the blueline and in goal, although it's not as deep on defense as it once was, there's some quality there:
--Brendan guhle, as we've seen, has tremendous upside and will probably make a strong case to be on the 2016-17 roster...he has top-pairing potential, is left-handed and murray already signed him to his entry-level contract (on a slide this season)
--Providence junior Anthony florentino already has a national championship with his name on it and scored the opening goal in the championship game...he's a hard-hitting defenseman with some offense to his game...in six games thus-far he has 2g, 2a and it wouldn't be a stretch to see him leave college after the season...could top-out as a top-four in the nhl
in goal the sabres stretched out their prospect pool over the last few years...Ullmark is the elder-statesman of the group at 22 yrs. old and it's cool that he's gotten it done early on...
--21 yr. old cal Petersen of notre dame is a highly regarded prospect who's in his sophomore season with the irish...he will probably play at least through his junior year before considering to go pro...was just named hockey east defensive player of the week
--20 yr. old Jonas Johansson has the size (6'4" 198 lbs.) that murray covets and is playing in the Swedish elite league...in his second year with Almtuna IS, his save% is up to .913 while his goals against is down to 2.46...he's signed through the rest of the season
--don't sleep on kane/myers "throw-in" Jason Kasdorf who's off to a strong start with rensselaer polytechnic institute...did a two-part piece on him and like his foundation, work-ethic and the progress he's made http://www.hockeybuzz.com...t-Jason-Kasdorf/209/70552
--and i'm still not counting out Makarov or Lieuwen although their odds have gone down considerably |

Kasdorf recently had three great games in defeating Union College twice and helped RPI defeat Boston College despite the team getting out-shot 39-28 and the team being outplayed. |

I meant depth as in players that can dress for the Sabres this year.

Well... Weber and Cola are our reserve defensemen at the moment (Pysyk and McCabe I think have done enough to remove the *). Those are our reserve d when Bogosian gets back.
Those are decent 7th options. |

Really like seeing McCabe and Pysyk as a pairing. I think McCabe's confidence is growing by the game/week.
Ristolainen looks like the number 1 for years. He looks so much better this year. When he wants to take over, he can, and he's so young it's scary to think who he will become.
Add those three to Bogosian and I like the top 4. Gorges and Franson as the third pair works for now. |

The salary cap limits what you can do with depth. If the Sabres depth isn't great now, with O'Reilly getting paid and after they have to pay guys like Eichel/ Reinhart/ Ristolainen it'll probably be worse. You just have to hope you stay healthy. |
