I would target BC boy Jordie Ben next year at 1.3 for two years as a number 6 D
Luke Schenn at around 4 for 3 years for a RHD , decent shot can fight. Defensive skills need working on.
And if Schultz is available , I would target him also .
You can have youth , grit , offensive skill for the PP . You could fit all three in for Vrbata and Hamhuis cap space - VANTEL
None of these would be anywhere close to replacing what Hamhuis brings to the table. I was hoping you had some top 4 Dmen that you wanted to target...Benn and Schenn are (as you note) 6D.
Schultz = Weber. |

Hamhuis is 32, not 36 or something.
He has gas left in the tank.
He is a mentor to the Tanev's, Hutton's and Sbisa's of our team.

If you want to keep your PP at the bottom of the league then yes Hamhuis is a good keep. - VANTEL
If he isnt on the PP, then it doesn't have to be? Already we know that Edler, Weber, Hutton are better PP options, and one unit should/will probably have a 4th forward. Jordie Benn and Luke Schenn are not better options over the next 3 year window than Hamhuis and _______ |

Let's see what Benning thinks. If he is all that then easily he will get a 4 year 5 mil contract. He is 33 next month.
Everyone here talks about how the PP sucks yet we want to take around 5 mil and lock up a guy that plays safe hockey.
He's not a fast skater , he doesn't have a great shot. If I am not mistaken Benning brought in Bartowski to do that at 1.75 per yer. |

Elder stinks on the PP . Weber is not working out Hutton is definitely going to be the guy. He needs help |

We all know Benning sucks, he's just waiting to clear cap space so he can give Hamhuis 6.5 for 4 yrs. |

You need at least one safe player. If its between him and Edler, 60% of the time I choose Hamhuis everytime. |

...and a mentor. Like you said Schultz didn't have this in EDM and was brought up in a losing environment big difference. Hammer and Edler aint the guys to bring Hutton along. Once Vrbata, Hamhuis, Hansen, Burrows and Edler are all being shopped JB can concentrate on acquiring a stud Dman to bring Hutton along. Until that point we have what we have. |

Hutton is going to earn 2nd pairing time, I don't want Hamhuis to get in the way. |

Personally I want Byfuglien. That fat bastard is exactly what we need. |

I actually dont think Edler stinks, but he certainly isnt in a position to succeed. He can shoot the puck but handling it and making decisions is not his strongest skill (I find it odd he is PP1 or nothing, he could easily be the top of the umbrella on the second unit with anyone else taking puck handling duties). Weber is the guy the Sedins want on their unit, but really can be replaced with any right handed D with a shot. |

Tanev and Edler are the mentors , you don't need more.
You have Edler Tanev Hutton, build around these three |

This is what I am saying. At this point we dont have better options, so showing Hamhuis the door and replacing him with worse players doesnt help make our young guys any better, nor does it guarantee them a clearer path to more opportunity |
