Tanev and Edler are the mentors , you don't need more.
You have Edler Tanev Hutton, build around these three - VANTEL
I would rather Hamhuis, Tanev be the mentors. Like I said earlier, Hamhuis can easily slide down the depth chart and be your comfortable/reliable veteran in your bottom pairing. Edler will be a disaster the moment Tanev finds better chemistry with someone else
Benning signed Sbisa for three years , sorry I just don't see how he brings back Hamhuis and hopes for an offensive D core. - VANTEL
Like I said if its between Edler and Hamhuis. I take Hamhuis. I am really not big on Edler. Highly overrated. Doesn't play as his size dictates it should.

Edler is younger faster and locked in. Hamhuis is expired at the end of the year. If you sign Hamhuis this is your D for the next three years.
Everyone complained how bad the D is. The only way to change it is to actually move players

I don't think Benning is shopping Sbisa or Edler so I bet it is Hamhuis that gets moved

Is Edler actually faster? He really doesnt look it most days.
I see Hamhuis similarly to Sami Salo, people wanted him moved for a long time - too injury prone, slow, etc. But he actually had a positive/calming effect on the D and it became evident when he left. Hamhuis has that demeanor, Edler does not. In the coming seasons, I would rather see Hutton be paired with Tanev, I think that is ideal but who is Edler going to play with? Hamhuis has been paired with almost everyone under contract with Vancouver over the past couple seasons because he is reliable and adapts. Edler cant do it, hes my choice to move out if you need to clear a path for someone, he eats too many valuable minutes for limited production

WD uses Edler in every situation. He plays top pair and eats up 24 minutes a night. He is locked in for a very reasonable 5 mil a year for 4 more years.
Do you really Think Benning is going to move Edler and his NTC or 33 year old Hamhuis?

Yes if I am betting, I agree thats likely to happen. I am just saying I would prefer retaining Hamhuis (obviously after a deadline deal) and gaining assets from Edler

See my other post. I agree that on things actually happening, you're right, doesnt mean I think that's best
I mean, Edler plays top minutes and all situations but do you really think hes a top 1A defenseman? I used to think he could be the stud D the team needed but his development has stalled

I think he is a decent 2/3 guy , he needs help . I would love Tanev Edler as a second pairing and find two new guys with the cap space. Byfuglien would be a good aquire for sure if it wasn't to long or too expensive.

In that way he's a lot like Hamhuis. A good if not great 2-3 Dman.
I think we're all in agreement that what this team needs is a true #1 Dman.
Edler would look sick next to Hedman for example
and Hamhuis would complement a more offensive Dman like Weber (to obvious?) well.

This is what I am saying. At this point we dont have better options, so showing Hamhuis the door and replacing him with worse players doesnt help make our young guys any better, nor does it guarantee them a clearer path to more opportunity - WhiteLie
