They really can't right now, unless they want to trade him, or put him through waivers and bring up another player. (not MacDonald) - MJL

Along with the cap hit for Pronger, a team also gets a roster exemption for him. That won't be the case with Lecavalier, and he'll have to be on the active roster. - MJL
Who cares? The salary will be lower than cap number with him on the team. That's literally the only thing that matters. I understand it severely limits the number of teams he can go to, but the value in that is undeniable |

Wouldn't Hexy have already explored salary-retained trades prior to waiving/demoting him? I'm thinking it was likely that nobody wanted AMac, even at half price. - Tomahawk
There is no guarantee that he had a trade available as long as he retained salary. I would be he did not. At this point he does not need to retain salary. This offseason, he may need to |

NHL trade markets expand and contract at different points in the calendar. Right before the season starts, coming out of camp, the market is very limited. It expands later in the season, and in the off season. |

I think cap ceiling teams have already exploited most, if not all, of the cap floor dollars they can. What have-not teams are left that need that cap buffer? |

Oilers are -130 tonight. Good friggin lord. The Flyers are NHL bottom feeders. |

I think the accepting team would be faced with the same problem the Flyers are facing right now -- he'll take spot in the lineup that probably would have gone toward a kid's development. |

I disagree. There is a huge difference between obtaining a player that can go on IR, versus a player that has to be carried on the active roster, that can't play anymore. That severely limits the value in a trade, where the team is looking for cap dollars to reach the ceiling. A team can simply sign another player that can still play a little, and overpay them on a one year deal. |

I'm assuming he was one of a handful of guys that Hexy was shopping all summer long. |

Maybe, maybe not. We can also speculate that Hextall was shopping him at his full value. In the premise offered there is money retained, and two more years off the deal. |

I think it means you have to pay $130 to win $100 if you bet on the Oilers. It's like a point spread on a football game.

Yes and no, I don't think Hexy wanted 1.5-2 million on the books for 5 more years, nor do I think too many teams were interested in 5 years of AMac. Once you get down to 3 years, I think it becomes an easier deal to make for both sides.

Thanks. I don't follow wagering. Does Philly +115 mean you get $115 if you bet $100 on Philly to win (and it somehow miraculously happens)? |

That goal by Giroux was ridiculous.
The Flyers have little offensive depth really beyond Giroux and a struggling Voracek but man has Couturier going out really hurt them. They already didn't have ideal lines in the middle of the lineup but things are even more jumbled now.
Hopefully he fully recovers from the concussion and gets back soon. |
