The Sabres have 5 wins, 10 points. Rank 24th in league standings. You could have picked 19 other teams better than them.

Records are useless Tanner? Ok how bout this #, chances of them making the playoffs right now at 16%.

The Habs beat the poop out of the Blues, and the Sabres, and kicked around the Jets, with Price in the pressbox, just for fun. I can't wait for them to pound on the Kings and Stars and show these two how real these Habs are.

In 87 career games. Lehner: .914 SP, 2.88 GAA.

Johnson in 65 career games: .909 SP 2.65 GAA.

Now the upside the clearly favors Lehner. But the current numbers are a wash.

McSorely would have broken the stick before it could be checked, but unfortunately for him, Brashear was still playing with the Canadiens' AHL team at the time and could not be located quickly enough.

Let's not even look at their record, records are useless right now and have way more to do with luck than anything else.

Chad Johnson hasn't played the past 2 games (including the Islanders game), Ullmark has been in net and only allowed 1 goal each game

Know you're going to catch hell for this post.

While I wouldn't say they're in the top 5, I would say I'm cautiously optimistic after their last 5 or so games. They're controlling the puck, fast, and man when Eichel gets the puck in stride it just seems like he can do almost anything he wants with it. Shots on goal near the top of the league...

And all this without one of our top offensive weapons in Kane and top Defensmen in Bogo

Until game 73, luck is a bigger factor than talent, and that is a fact. If you don't want to put any thought into it, why not just list the top five teams with the most points in the power rankings? I think we can all agree that the variation of how you play vs. what your record is, is very high after only ten games.

Besides, as crazy as you want to make out what I said as, I wrote right in it that I was more or less just trying to give them some recognition for how well they've played so far.

If the Hurricanes can just get a few breaks, they'll go 72-0 to start the season. Sadly, they'll go 0-10 to finish the season and get bounced in the first round despite winning the Preisents' Trophy because luck magically disappears immediately after game 72 and then, and only then, does talent start to play a prominent role.

The Power Rankings now lovingly rererred to as the "Recognition Rankings"...

These are usually a joke at the best of times and might as well be the corsi rankings as thats pretty much the only thing that affects the rankings.

Correct. You obviously don't know the sport if you think otherwise. I mean every season it's a crap shoot for the Presidents trophy. Those teams that win usually have zero talent but they sure are lucky. Wherever those dice fall determines that lucky team. Talent really becomes evident the last nine games or so and those teams that use all of their luck up in the first 73 games have nothing to fear if they make it to the playoffs due to there never being any luck involved in them. That's when the talented teams take over but if those talented teams happen to be not lucky they may never make it in the first place (you have to be lucky those first 73 games).
