I still don't get it. The Flyers are one of the worst teams in the league, and will probably get worse before they get better. Maybe he's a masochist? |

I don't think they're one of the worst, they've got some great forwards on that team but weak defence. Plus they've got a new coach and systems to learn.
Nucker is a Canucks fan he's just tired of the same old arguments/debates with folks here in Carols blog. He'll be proven wrong on most things he's been arguing about regarding Benning but I'm sure he'll be man enough to say he was wrong.
His points about cap management, or lack of, on Bennings part are valid though....IMO. |

Valid but not to the extent he was criticizing them for. He proclaimed it as terrible foreshadowing for the future use of capspace, whereas the terms were actually all reasonable and at this point looks like the timing for them to be off the books will line up fairly close to the team being competitive with a new younger roster. It was quick judgement on his part IMO |

I agree with you that it won't crush the team down the road, but, I still maintain he shouldn't have given Sutter or Sbisa the number of years he did.
Moot point though, I like where the team is and where they're headed. And....I'd still pick Virtanen over Ehlers every time, I love what that kid brings to the table every night. |

Phili's biggest problem is the number of onerous contracts on the books. Holmgrom was a crazy person. I don't know much about their coach other then he was an off the books hire but he's got his work cut out for him. Giroux is one of the best in the league but his prime is going to be waisted there IMO.
I never had a problem with anything Nucker said. I disagreed with some, but it doesn't bother me, and as you say, he has some valid complaints. |

Moot point for sure, no GM is going to hit it out of the park with every decision, and the team has really changed from a couple seasons ago to a positive upswing.
I think 3 year term for Sbisa was totally reasonable on a team that had very few young defensemen, and while I dislike the term Sutter got without playing a game I think we all figured McCann/Cassels/etc. were a few years away and Horvat would likely be 3LC this year. So it might be a problem going forward, but I can see the rationale that the team was weak down the middle and needed some young veteran to be a part of the Sedin transition.
I also wouldnt be surprised if they did some forecasting and project the cap to rise in the coming years, minimizing the impact of these less-than-ideal contracts |

I think the contracts are killing their ability to move forward, so in that sense, I agree with you. They should just start over again until they can rid themselves of two or three massive anchor contracts. |

They look a lot like the Oilers to me, high skill up front and nothing in the back end. Losing Pronger for nothing combined with big bad contracts really is killing them. They could retool fairly quick if they could combine some of their guys in their prime with bad contract to free space |

Ryan Wilson's Pens blog is up. They are still beating the good riddance to Sutter tune....
I am fine with Sutter so far. The team seems faster. Better on the face off. I know its early in the season but it was even earlier when we heard how bad a move it was for the Canucks. |

Yeah he hasn't disappointed me at all, possibly because I didnt have high expectations. I just hoped that he would be solid and not hurt the team, and he has delivered to that point. I am not looking to him for goals/points (I can think of many guys I expect to score ahead of him), possibly why the top heavy Pens were disappointed? |

I'm not sure what their prospect depth is like. Ironically, that's a question for Nucker. |
