I'll say this: both The Beatles and Nirvana were very influential and mark turning points in rock music history. They are also both very overrated. - jmatchett383
Yep. I do not deny their places in history. |

If they'd do it, would you trade AMac for Dustin Brown if LA ate $600K to even up the cap hits?? - jmatchett383
I would for the bonus of no more AMac talk in these threads. |

They're only centers if you look at them from the water. - hereticpride
I personally am not crazy about taking one player, place them anywhere and expect them to play well. Gagner at LW, Raffl at center, Schenn at all three positions. These 'experiments' go back along way for us and the lack of LWers is biting us in the ass today. Simmonds on LW, Carter on RW as our best faceoff man etc. These have only worked out with Giroux and Gagne. |

They'd have to eat $875,000, and I still wouldn't. I'd rather buy out MacDonald than be stuck with Brown till 2022 when he will be 37.
If we were trading with LA I would think about swapping Simmonds for Muzzin or Martinez. |

He really is though. Didn't say a number one, but if he's not a bonafide high quality #2, I don't know what the heck is |

He's a very good complimentary player, but I don't see him anchoring the blueline for a contender. |

I know he's been underwhelming so far, but Simmer's still a solid keeper for me -- there's nobody in the system who could replace him and there very few players in the league who can do what he does, as well as he does. Try to replace him through the draft, and prepare to wait half a decade or more for your investment to pay off (if it ever does).
They look terrible, but it's too early for a shakeup, IMO. Let Coots get back in the lineup, then re-evaluate in December. There's probably a Downie/Talbot kind of move you could make then to shake up chemistry. |

You're probably right. But I turned Simmonds' season around in 13-14 by saying we should trade him for Kulikov, so hopefully I can make that happen again.

So LA probably wouldn't part with him. So would you do Simmonds for Martinez and unload LSchenn somewhere (probably with salary retention)?

Which is a #2...and it's been shown he CAN play that position for a contender. Simmer isn't going to get you your Shea Weber you covet, so a top pair d man would be awesome. |

Yes, he's a very good Matt Carle ca. 2010 type of player. If paired with a guy like Weber/Doughty/Suter/etc., he's very valuable. But I think Simmonds is more valuable than that. |

Yeah I don't think they would either. I don't think Martinez is anything better than a #4 guy tbh. He wouldn't help our anemic corps too much, not to mention Simmer for Martinez seems like a massive underpay. I don't think Martinez is better than anything we have.

Fair enough. I updated my pairings since Martinez can play the right side.

Well he's playing mainly with Martinez on the second pairing for LA this season.

So, when paired with an elite guy like Doughty, Muzzin makes him worse?
Actually, seems like all of the defensemen minus Ehrhoff and Martinez are better without him. |

I don't think LA would trade Muzzin straight up for Simmonds anyway. A mediocre even strength power forward is not more valuable than a top pair d man. Just going to have to agree to disagree about Muzzin. He's only 200 games into his NHL career, and is already Doughty's wingman -- and his play is great independent of Doughty. He tore up WC and Doughty didn't even attend. He is a player to keep tabs on in the next couple seasons to see if his development keeps moving forward |

A lot of us have picked fights, the first step to manhood is probably owning up to it. I've done it many times but the same time, there is nothing worse than a guy who picks a fight and plays innocent when he finds one. |
