Carol, aren't the Canucks tied for 1st in the Pacific? - A_SteamingLombardi
They have the same number of points as L.A., but are seeded second based on less ROWs.
I figure it's best to always look at the standings as if we were determining playoff seedings. And given that the first-place team in the Pacific will almost certainly play a wild card team from the Central this year, I think second is actually the spot to aim for!

It's funny how some of those terrible Gillis picks are turning out to be decent after all. Soon we will see Schroeder break out in Minny and Hodgson dominate in Nashville.
In no way am I saying Gillis's strengths were scouting but Gaunce, Hutton, Horvat, Connauton are all looking good now and Grenier, Shink, Cannata, Rodin, Corrado, Cassels, Subban and Jensen all still have a chance.
If 6 guys end up being NHLer's out of 6 years will that be seen as a success? 8? 10? - belcherbd
... it's still bad.
Horvat was 1 of two top 10 picks that turned out to know how to play hockey. Thats horrible. Hodgson is almost like drafting Wellwood in the 1st round... except Wellwood is a better defensive player.
Gaunce is a #1 pick and he's still fighting to get into the league and as welcoming as I am for him... he had to go through a lot of changes to become something we can use... a salvaged 1st rounder at best. A project player that seem to be plenty.
Jensen... another 1st rounder. He is a long shot to make the NHL after all these years of development.
Shcroeder...BUST
Shink is coming around finally. The jury is far from decided on him. Same draft as Horvat... This is the only 1st round in Gillis' entire stay here that can be considered a success. The season in which piece by piece, Gillis was losing managing control of the team I may add.
If you cant get top 23 roster spot players out of half of your 1st rounders... you are a complete fail.
So far it's one very promising player out of the 1st round for Gillis and a couple of depth players in the AHL.

"I've got to come prepared and ready to shut them down."
Ben Hutton talks about facing Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday night.
Whenever I look at Hutton, I think he is about to burst out laughing, like he can't believe he is playing in the NHL or something. |

Gillis sucked at everything except finding good college free agents (like Tanev and Hutton) and I believe most of his actual scouting was in that direction. He left everything else to Delorme and we know how horrible that guy is.
