Have you noticed that the hot streak is never late in the season? It is always in the first 1/4 of the season. If a player like Weise (perennial 4th liner) gets 2.5-3.5 mils per season for long term that means the average salary goes up. Everyone makes more money.

Without the salary cap, I can understand this to some extent, with the salary cap it shouldn't be a factor, more players making less money, less making more and whatever is in the middle.
With the Canucks, we see Dorsett, Prust as 4th liners making too much money, and it is making ripples in the lineup. Rookies at bargain prices helps make the salaries work and there is a market adjustment at some point when teams will look at overpaid 4th liners and decide to run more with youth and cap space...
With the salary cap, I don't see this sort of stuff as benefiting players on the whole.
With the hot streaks early in the season, I see it more that some players hit the ground running and others are out of sync. I don't think anyone did the Sedins and Vrbata any favours when they were hot to start last season.
