I doubt it will have any affect on his legacy. Nobody will even mention his Philadelphia years except to say "...and he finished his career in Philadelphia." - Scoob
tbh, any tarnish his tenure here may have is already on the record. Either way, the story will be, "He struggled to stay on the roster during his years in Philly."
I'm not holding my breath for him to retire early. I wouldn't buy him out this coming summer though, worst case I'd tough it out and do it the following offseason. |

That's how I feel. Th money isn't needed next season and players like streit or schenn or Simmonds or read could be moved at TDL to create space. The vinny money will be needed in years following. Again if I needed the money next year to contend things would be different. |

And nobody will care because the multiple pages on his Tampa legacy will overwhelm that final sentence. |

The Vinny Lecavalier Flyers jersey will be sorta like a weird collectors item.
Like an Adam Oates Flyers jersey. |

Why waste years of my life for money when I already have $50M? - PhillySportsGuy
If continuing to make millions is considered wasting years of life, then what do you call whatever it is we all do for much, much less than that.. However, I do feel that Vinny owes me something for staying up late to watch that game considering the way he played |

We can agree to disagree I guess. I just really think you are exaggerating how much of a step back buying out Vinny will be.

You really dont think Hextall could work around 916k worth of dead money 2 years in the future? That is seriously like 1-1.2% of the salary cap - YuenglingJagr
Nothing is being exaggerated. Having no dead money on the cap 2 years in the future is better than having 916K of dead space. It's that simple. When would the Flyers be more likely to want to add a player that would make a real difference? Next season, or two seasons from now? That extra cap space could come in handy when the team is actually ready to make some noise. |

I really think people will gloss over the specific number of seasons. It'll just be "those miserable last few years."
The big question is, will Vinny want to drive to practice everyday? Or would he rather be enjoying the afterparty, maybe knock some drinks back with MSL and remember the good old day? |

I agree, if there is any time for a buyout, it's after the 16/17 season. Buying him out this upcoming off season, would be a huge mistake. |

Pretty much. ~900k isn't insignificant. Better to get Vinny off the books, completely, asap. |

It's only saving money for one season, it's losing money for the rest. Buying out Lecavalier would be foolish in my opinion. - MJL
Totally agree. And he is used as scapegoat for so many things.
His Edmonton game was OK but not the Calgary one.
But people complaining about him not being a 2 way player is just crazy.
He NEVER was one.But high stick on B Schenn really shows where his problem is.
He simple cant read game situations any longer in a correct way.
AKA his out of place too often |

The time I spend at work, is wasting time in my life, but unfortunately, it's a necessity to live. Lecavalier has the luxury of never having to work again, if he chooses not to. |

Flyers are no where near contender status. Ride both forwards contracts out.
Just make life miserable for him is all...just send him home wland keep paying him . |

Cousins and Straka will be be subject to waivers starting next season so if there's not a roster spot for them on the Flyers they could be claimed. Just another reason not to carry a waste of space as the 14th forward. - Feanor
It's also a reason to get them up this year as injury call ups or replacements after the TDL to get a final look at them while they're waiver eligible. |

$916k could mean the difference between Konecny or some other talented kid making the opening day roster or not.
Or if you leave it unspent and bank it, you can pick up a player with a pretty high AAV at the TDL when your team is actually good enough to make some noise. |

This. If you buy him our and replace him with a guy making $1.5M or less (UFA or current AHLer), you're actually saving money. Yes, you'd have the $900K hits for the next 2 years, which isn't the best scenario, but the should have some guys on ELC's which will make that manageable.
Umberger is, this year, a competent NHL player. If he can continue to be that, carrying him for one more year isn't the end of the world. - jmatchett383
I have no idea why people are talking about buying out Umberger. Then entire purpose of bringing him in was to be rid of Hartnell's contract two years earlier, if we buy him out and are stuck with a cap hit for an extra year, that pretty much negagtes the purpose os the whole trade (granted the hit will still be less overall but the purpose was to free up that money sooner). Umberger has played significantly better than last year so I see absolutely no reason to buy him out when his contract is gone next year, when we may even be able to move him for a 5th or something to an injury pleagued playoff team.
Vinny on the other hand, I'm willing to consider a buyout, I don't want to but unless he retires there is no way we move his contract, it's not like a team can LTIR him like Pronger's deal.
Pretty sad that it's easier to move a retired player's contract than an active guy... |

It's about relativity. What's he going to do with $49M that he can't do with $47? |

If I were the owner of the team there would never ever be another no move clause included in any contract ever.
NTC can be worked around which we've seen. With the NMC you are stuck.
If you don't perform then you can go ride the buses in Lehigh Valley.
If an UFA didn't come here over a NMC then he can go play somewhere else.
I'm very encouraged by Couts performance coming back from his concussion.
Getting Medvedev back and sitting Manning, and the return of Bellemere will make a difference.
I'd immediately get Couts and Schenn back together as it is their best chance for a secondary scoring line. |
