Keeping Lecavalier and not buying him out, and riding it out, versus carrying cap penalties for 4 seasons, is a perfect example of taking a step back to take a leap forward. - MJL
If we keep Vinny the total cap hit is worth $9m.
If we buy him out it's a total of $7.165m. So the cap space savings are close to $2m.
It's pretty silly to think the paltry $916,666 cap penalties in 18-19 and 19-20 are going to be some huge burden on the Flyers. |

And 16-17 is going be the time where the Flyers will be tightest against the cap because Umberger, Streit, and Lecavalier are still on the books and Voracek and Couturier's extensions kick in.
$916k could mean the difference between Konecny or some other talented kid making the opening day roster or not. - Tomahawk
Vinny's $4.5m cap hit and roster spot is likely to be the difference between a kid like Konecny or Leier making the team next season. |

Just (frank)ing sad. The time it will take for the poop to get off this team and for them to be good again.
No magical enema. - flyer_nutter
It's going to take time.
They want to trade Luke for cap space but no takers yet.
Elliot Freidman wrote he believed Luke will be more tradable later on when his salary owed comes down some. At the TDL Streit and others will be moved.
VLC should not see the ice again in a Flyers uniform.
It's slow and painful but progress is being made.
If they do trade Streit I hope they can resign Medvedev.
I personally am not fully confident Ghost will be ready to take over Streit's role yet. |

I'm guessing Ghost will have until the trade deadline this year to be ready. I think Mark Streit is a goner at the TDL.

I just don't want to see any more of the Nazgul 3.
If they start infusing some kids in next year at least the team could be fun to watch again even if they aren't great. Boring hockey with guys you are just waiting to get off the team is just brutal. |

If I were him, I'd rather retire and spend time with my family. Travel the world while my kids are still relatively young. Get involved in other hockey related things like coaching or broadcasting or just running camps.
Why waste years of my life for money when I already have $50M? - PhillySportsGuy
That makes sense, but then why didn't he retire this summer? Because he (wrongly) believes he can still play. |

I don't think gostisbhrere is a direct replacement for streit. Streit plays a lot of minutes. I see gostisbhrere is more a third pair pp specialist. Guys like hagg, Morin, sanheim and provorov all seem better suited for top 4 minutes. Just my view. Also I am intrigued by Friedman at bowling Green. I think he is a more gritty torey Krug |

That is fine for this year, they will be out of a playoff spot most likely and young guys will get called up for a look.
I think we've seen some prospects look ok in the spring after the games are less meaningful, and not be ready for prime time in a full role.
To me it makes sense to trade Streit to a contender, but I would like to see them keep a skilled puck defender like Medvedev if they do move Streit. |

It's pretty silly to suggest that I stated that 916K will be a huge burden on the Flyers. The point is being free and clear of cap penalties, is better than carrying the cap penalties. It's that simple! What are they going to do with the cap savings for next year, that is so important? To do what? They're going to make some moves. They have around 62M in cap commitments for next season, with some players to re-sign. If they trade players such as Read and Streit, that's another potential 9M of free space. If this team doesn't make the playoffs this year, should they come back the following season and try to do the same things, or should they sell off some pieces, acquire some future assets, and add youth to the team?
I have the utmost respect for you Feanor, and I think you're a very knowledgeable and informed poster, but I completely disagree with you on this. |

Friedman is definitely a guy who gets overlooked based on all of the other defense prospects, but he has a fair bit of NHL upside. And I love the fact that he's a right handed shot. |

I think it will be provorov. Solid two way defenseman and will be on point at pp. At that point I could see flyers using two den with gostisbhrere on the other point. Now you have guys that can shoot at the point. |

They won't be that tight, if some players are traded, which if the team continues at it's current level of play, that's exactly what they should do. When looking at the cap, some speculation is involved. What future moves will be made, who will be traded, who will be back, who won't. |

Konecny was a breath of fresh air.
I do think they can speed this thing up a touch if they make some smart ufa signings.
Buyout of you have to, to make a solid move. Drafting isn't the only way. |

Also Wilcox at Cornell. Could be a your stay at home guy with good outlet pass. Kill penalties. They have pieces coming. Just tough waiting |

As advanced as Provorov might look in junior hockey, Hextall really hasn't shown the inclination to move a guy from junior hockey straight into the NHL. |

Konecny should be in junior again next season, and doing his time in the AHL the year after that.
