Haha and they money that he is passing up wouldn't be helpful to his family so dear to him that he is retiring to spend time with them.

Well, there's a speculative judgement if I've ever seen one.

He has enough to live a comfortable life on the interest from investments alone
100 million lifetime earned!
And continued income from the Tampa buyout

Guy never should have to work again unless he wants to
Not playing and getting scratched, why do it?

- Marc D

Really? What are the investments that he's made? Maybe I could hope on board and get some nice interest returns as well.

Professional athletes tend to higher financial consultants that help them manage their money. While it's true, that some pro athletes who've made millions, have gone bankrupt, I have not seen any information that it might be the case with Lecavalier. I think it's safe to assume that he is very well off.
- MJL

The ones who were swindled and lost all their money usually get something written about it like what happened to Jack Johnson.
I don't know for certain but would believe Vinnie is doing just fine.

It also doesn't seem reasonable that Jose Canseco would have money issues.
It also doesn't seem reasonable that Lenny Dykstra would have money issues.
It also doesn't seem reasonable that a whole host of NBA/NFL players (Iverson and TO come to mind) would have money issues.
It also doesn't seem reasonable the high-profile musicians such as TLC, David Crosby, and Wayne Newton would have money issues.
It also doesn't seem reasonable the star actors such as Brendan Fraser and Kim Basinger would have money issues.

Yet they all do despite being multi-millionaires at some point in their lives. I'm not privy to Mr. Lecavalier's bank account(s) and/or investments, so I don't know his financial situation.

- jmatchett383

It's possible. Just not likely. Vinny seems a together guy. You named some low lifes and some people with serious personal issues. Most of the people you named haven't sniffed Vinny's career earnings either.

Yeah and that makes me a little hesitant. I look and Montreal and could they use someone like Simmonds 's for playoffs. Could you get back a player like McCarron or thrower or DE LA rose or facale?
- J35Bacher

Depends on how badly Montreal wanted him. If they feel they are close and Simmonds would help them get to the Cup they might.

It's very unlikely. But to state it as fact that he currently has $50 due to his career earnings seems like quite the assumption to me.

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to fall in line with everyone else or else someone Tomahawk will accuse me of trying to start a fight.

Due to Lecavalier's past earnings, there is no reason he would care about getting paid $2.5M 2 years from now. He will not play the final year of his deal and buying him out is the worst idea Ive ever heard of.

There, agreed?

I think Vinny will be bought out personally....and should....

But then he would have TWO buyouts coming his way. Either way, he's already getting millions a year from Tampa. Secondly, why do people think he will just sit on his ass eating Cheetos until he dies of morbid obesity? I'm sure he will have a source of income: he obviously has investments, and I am sure he will get a hockey related job in some capacity again. Doesnt mean I believe he will terminate, but he's in a situation where it is an option.

YeahYeah. I think of Simmonds as a trade piece to playoff teams. Provides that grit and possible scoring. A team like that might be more willing to let go a young talent.

I'm just tired of 1 particular individual on here complaining that I'm trying to start fights when I have a differing opinion of the majority of the board. SO I guess I need to fall in line and agree with everyone else on here.

Yes, trading Simmonds is the correct move.

Yes, it is a known fact that he has many successful investments and will definitely be offered a hockey-related job. I agree.

Yep. On one hand it would suck because I like Simmonds, but business is business and if such a move would help the Flyers it has to be done.

It's also why I think the likelihood of the Flyers making a trade much before the TDL is low. They have some parts that playoff teams may want/need, but it's too early to make those deals.

Well I don't want to come on here with a differing opinion. So I would also trade Simmonds. Would you like to share a smoothie and catch butterflies with me later on?

Canseco and Dykstra also happen to be morons. You've named a couple of players out of thousands of millionaire pro athletes. I'm very comfortable speculating that Lecavalier doesn't have money issues. Especially knowing that he's still collecting millions from TB

you don't think you're taking it too personally and, in doing so, kind of validating him? I know persecution complexes are coming back in style here, but I never took you for the trendy type.

I agree that your speculation if fair, yet still speculation.
