Well, who isn't?
- johndewar
Question about him:
He started playing professional in 1979 and then played 6 season with the Flames from 83-89. However, he was able to participate in both the 1992 and 1994 Olympic Winter games when you had to be amateur. How was this allowed?
Edit: Turns out that professional players were allowed to compete in Olympic ice hockey since 1986, but that the NHL refused to allow its players to participate. The more you know. |

It's only saving money for one season, it's losing money for the rest. Buying out Lecavalier would be foolish in my opinion. - MJL
Personally, I think it all depends on how much tolerance/Patience Hextall has. If our new Gm doesn't remain patient, he goes against everything he's said for over a year now.
As for Vinny, I think he's foolish to walk away from a cent thst he signed up for. Sure he could walk away from hos last year of the deal but the main goal for everyone in life is to set yourself up for life and your family coming up behind you if you can. To say he has enough money is painfully naive.
For me, speaking objectively, it's a game of chicken. Who is honna give in first. Both sides have a leg to stand on in this pissing match and both sides can ride it out.
My stance, only speaking for myself is, if you have a guy under contract and on the current contract, he's gotta play. If he's practicing regularly, you should play him. It sucks but this team sucks. Live by the sword, die by thw sword. I don't think Vinny has been good but who has? I think calling players up ahead of Vinny does nothing, it's the cowards way out. I want them nowhere near this poop show.

The only thing a team is obligated to do for a player under contract is to pay him, and meet the other obligations of the CBA. They are under no requirement to play the player. |

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to fall in line with everyone else or else someone Tomahawk will accuse me of trying to start a fight.
Due to Lecavalier's past earnings, there is no reason he would care about getting paid $2.5M 2 years from now. He will not play the final year of his deal and buying him out is the worst idea Ive ever heard of.
There, agreed? - jmatchett383
Unless Vinny squandered a lot of money and also racked up a ton of debt, my guess is the guy is just fine, esp being Tampa will be paying him millions over the next so many years |

I am of the opinion that this team needs to get rid of useless players and start winning. Waiting is necessary for some contracts, but I think Hextall should always be looking at ways to make the Flyers a better team. There should be a level of play that is acceptable to this organization and if you can't reach it you are gone. |

If a player is not a good player, a team has no reason why they should have to play him. |

Sam Hinkie just traded them both for 2nd round picks. All of them.

I honestly think Hextall is going to lose his poop in the press at least once this year before the trade deadline.

The question is whether or not buying Vinny out does anything to further the Flyers chances THIS year of WINNING the cup......clearly it's wont change those odd's....by buying him out sooner it hurts for longer....longer when this team might have a chance to get better. |

They are creating a culture of losing and poor performance being an acceptable norm in both LV and the top team.
How can the prospects develop in that environment?
Patience for what? Learning to emulate bad habits and collecting their checks, punching the clock.
Does anyone see Hakstol persevering here ?

He's got a 5 year deal. I think he's here for a minimum of 3 years and by then, you'd think the talent level will be higher. |

To early to tell about Hakstol ....hard , but I think things have to get worse before they get better....and it's the "worse'" that we are starting to live through right now. |

That implies that the Flyers are trying to lose, in both arenas. The Flyers signed a number of higher priced veterans for the Phantoms. I'm sure that wasn't to create a losing culture.

Its going to take a lot of character by players on long term contracts , the coach and probably bringing in some locker room character players to get through this sewage plant of a couple more seasons. It will burn your eyes and lungs, destroy brain cells and possibly be a carcinogen. They are going to have to clean a toxic long term environment, think superfund site |

I question the evaluation of talent and/or people being the right pieces.
Trying to lose purposely- no, not Buffalo here, but maybe they are not as bright as they have sold themselves to be ( GM/Staff/ Pro Scouts) |

Personally I see no way Vinny stays beyond this year. However it happens it will happen. They can't send him down, can't play him in the NHL, and this situation is just poison for everyone. Even having him on the team to do nothing isn't great for team morale. A buyout is burdensome...but not overly so. The years where he would've been off the cap are in the 900ks both years. That's a minor inconvenience. Flyers have a ton of ELCs that will be on the team in the next year or so. If Vinny was not bought out this summer, and this same awful situation played out next year, I could see the impetus for retiring gone.
Having said this, I bet Hexy plays chicken and tells him next year will be this year redux and there's no buyout impending. I also don't doubt he might be the one to be the chicken in the end. |

I think you'll see some hope after the trade deadline.
And a little more in the offseason......but I do think it will take a bit of time. I don't think it's going to be the Bataan death march or anything.
As long as the team remains interesting, I'm fine. It's when they are boring is when I get upset. |

I wouldn't fire any coach based off this current roster. Give a man a fishing pole he'll eat for life. Hakstol got handed some bobo brand Swedish Fish near a sewer in Kensington. |
