Alright, Nutter's take from last nights game.

A lot of fun, have never sat so close to the ice, and a decent number of fellow Flyer fans.

Pros:

Neuvirth: What can you say, just played an amazing game. Some bad rebounds as the game went on but overall was the primary reason they won. I'd ride him as long as he's hot like this.

Gudas: Provided that physical factor on defense the team that nobody else seemed to bring consistently. The Jets were frustrated with him all night long, I am happy he is on the squad.

Giroux: If anyone dare question him, they deserve to be smacked. He is the main guy on the bench that is truly vocal and continously engaged. He was by far the best offensive player, and made a number of key defensive plays. Flyers would be a joke without him.

Couturier: Thought he played a hell of a game. The points seem hard to come by for Couturier, but he does so many little things well that are much easier to see live. Good for him.

Now.. The not so good:

Manning: I have been on board with this experiment but wonder if its time to come to a close. Jets were continously attacking his side of the ice.

Hak: Perhaps just being picky but I dont remember seeing a coach more asleep on the bench than Stevens. May as well have been a card board cut out. The assistants were talking more to each other, and the players. Not impressed and I expect more leadership during the game from the HC.

Voracek: Either he is hurt, or mentally just fried. He has his hands to a point but he was gliding on the ice more than any other player I found. Slow strides, and not the explosive nature I am used to. He looked terrible 5 on 5 I thought.

Fun game overall, got to sit basically a couple of rows above from where the Flyers tunnel was.

Couturier before he has little value. Offense starts with defence and the way Gudas and Schultz move the puck we need all the help we can get back there.
- joegreif17

Couturier was without a doubt in my mind the best skater over the last two games, shift in and shift out. The team record is (I believe) 4-2-2 with him and 1-4-1 without him. At least pick a game where he had an off night, geez. Maybe if we trade him now we can nab a third rounder or something. We got one for a munch butter playar in Remaldo after ale.

Also, a good job by Umberger. He took two huge hits in that 1st period and decided to give a little pay back himself.

Got beat down by Ladd but good for RJ.

this team is a bottom feeder and when someone criticizes a player, the collective will jump on them... but hey we got a goalie controversy, because the guy who has kep this team in games for two plus seasons without a legitimate backup had a stretch of 10 so-so games... love this thread

I also am puzzled by the Couturier criticism.

He is really the only player on the team consistently winning puck battles, all over the ice. When he gets the puck along the boards it is very hard to take it away from him. His play leads to prolonged cycles and chances. If he had a scoring winger he would likely be a 40-45 assist per year player.

Speaking of which I'd get Brayden Schenn on his RW as soon as possible.

Maybe it's time to try Gagner on the 1st line LW too. He knows how to shoot the puck and seems to get open a lot. They'd lose some of Raffl's two way play but I think he would flourish with G and Jake.

Joe, not sure where you are coming from on this.

Everyone is praising Neuvirth but I haven't read anyone doubt Mason as the true #1.

I would love to see Couts score more but even without the goals he is a piece to build around. I think with a scoring winger he could be a good #2 C behind G and if he plays with grinders then he could be a great #3 shut down player. A championship team is built with guys playing roles like he does.

Just my opinion.

I think people have lost perspective on just how much scoring is down around the league. Being a point per game players makes you one of the 5-10 best scorers in the league

Brayden has had a strong season thus far. Luke has been among the best D, but that might be a case of being the tallest midget-in other words, he's played well compared to the rest of the Flyers D
- Jsaquella

I absolutely agree but there are certain standards for Jake Voracek, Wayne Simmonds and Steve Mason. Heck, Del Zotto hasn't looked dangerous at all offensively.

If you are a fan of this team you know too damn well how scoring is down...

Just joking. I was really impressed with Couts the last two games. He was dominating on the puck. And typically makes the right decision when he has it. If his wingers would get in the crease when he has it down low they'd score in bunches. The puck nearly always ends up going towards the goal when he has it.

I am probably just nitpicking but the dymanic between him and the assistants just seemed weird.

Every time they go off the ice, assistants are talking to each other. Hak walking behind with a blank look. Coming back on to the ice, or on the bench. Same thing.

I can't wait until they have someone dynamic and speedy on his wing. Anyone who plays wing for him is pretty much guaranteed to have to do very little defending, will get tons of in zone time, and constantly have pucks turned the other way in the NZ. Hurry it up, Konecny! I still would love to see him with Jake. They haven't tried it this year yet. Those two would be impossible to take the puck from down low.

I wonder if Gagner would do well on his wing though. He's someone not good at generating space but knows what to do with it when he's got it. Haks doesn't trust him with those minutes though. I would like to see Schenn over Simmer on RW, but Simmer has looked good there the last two games too.

Yeah. It would be stupid to trade him because they only really have 1 center prospect who projects to be top 6. If they moved him, they'd be looking for his replacement.

I'd give these lines a look once everyone is healthy just to shake things up a little.

Need some shooters to help out the entire team

Been busy/lurking, but this is the truest sentence that can be stated on the Internet today

Glad they won last night. Been doing my best not to contribute to any negativity -- this is gonna be a process, and while I want it to be faster, it's gonna take as long as it takes

I hold to the same thing I have said about Couturier

He is a great 3rd line center
I'm not sure if he is a second line center and if something happens to Giroux we are hosed with him as a first line center.

I am 100% glad he is on the team and for the Flyers to be successful they need Couturier, Schenn and Read to produce.

I don't believe he is untouchable though.

Voracek has 5 points in 14 games, no goals, is about to start a $66 million contract, flubbed a shot terribly on a 2 on 1 and the main topic today is ...

Couturier.

My worry level about Couturier is DEFCON 5

My worry level about Voracek is DEFCON 4.4

My worry level about the chili I will eat later is DEFCON 2

Puzzled? I'm absolutely stupefied. Flyers are night and day with Couturier in the line up. Yes it'd be great if he could provide more offense, but when he's out there, the Flyers are generally driving play.

As great as Neuvirth has played, you have to ride him while he's hot. But that said, I have no worries about Mason. He hasn't been bad, just hasn't been as good as we've come to expect him to be as a Flyer.

It's going to take more than 7 games for me to ignore Mason's three plus seasons of very good to outstanding play. If Neuvirth is still carrying a .945 save% in January, then we can talk.

Nobody has looked especially dangerous. They need guys to start producing. Hopefully, it will start to come. They have been generating chances. They have to start burying them, especially Voracek-but so do Simmonds, Couturier, Read, Giroux, Raffl and even Schenn
