One thing I always forget is that they were that good and were still the youngest team in the league. I still wonder how we didn't win 2 cups in the 80s even with the dynasty oilers - Hextall271
The Oilers were just so loaded especially up the middle. Having to match up against Gretzky and Messier without having a legit #1 center was just too much. Also, the Flyers, as usual, had no luck with injuries during both the 85 and 87 playoff runs. |

Yep. I was reading some comments on twitter regarding a game preview before the oilers game last week, and some oilers fan posted that he could never understand why Hextall won the conn Smythe over Gretzky. I wondered if he even watched the finals series at all??? Wtf |

That's the dumbest theory I've ever heard. I can't even imagine how there could be a motive to support his claim. |

Yeah. I saw this foolishness. I don't mind cherry but you got to take him for what he is. It's a sensational sideshow. A lot of fans from Canadian teams will love this as it fans the flames of the Thought that the big bad Flyers are goons still. He should have added that they have no goaltending then the narrative would be complete. |

That is the dumbest theory I have heard from Cherry since the last Coach's Corner. |

Absolutely. But Pelle drove way too fast most of the time and had flirted with disaster several other times. He walked away without a scratch, until the night he mixed his usual driving habits with alcohol. |

I'll tell you I was freaked out when I heard about Jakes car crash and when I saw the pics I was shocked he got out ok. |

From the link:
"The league can't do anything about it because they can't prove it, because they don't know either," said Cherry. "But hockey guys like me know they drove him into the boards."
Don Cherry is neither funny nor insightful. I struggle to find his appeal and I've been a hockey fan for a long time.
I know he coached at one time, but has anyone considered Cherry "a hockey guy" in the past 25 years? He's just an entertainer. |

How bout the Flint Firebirds revolting and quitting the team after their coach was fired?
Apparently, Gruden and his assistants were fired by the owner because the owner's son wasn't playing enough for his liking. His son is a rookie dman on the team.

I'm not a junior hockey wonk, but I had no idea this team was the former Plymouth Whalers.
And the owner's own son even walked out on the team as part of this. Crazy story. |

Yeah it's definitely bizarre. What the hell do they do? Reinstate the coach? Sign 25 new players? Next game is..pretty soon |
