Does getting rid of Holmgren get rid of all the bad contracts? No? Okay then what is the big deal. There were a couple of moves that really screwed the team in its current state, but he did a lot of good for the organization. What if Pronger doesn't get hurt and what if the salary cap doesn't collapse? - YuenglingJagr
You must be new here. Blaming Homer is kind of his thing. |

But if you gut the team for draft picks and prospects then you have to rush the prospects and they'll be ruint without the pixie dust.
You guys just don't think these things through. You're reactionaries is what you are... reactionaries. You need to be more reaction"fairies". Get the dust back in the equation like good little lemmings. - mayorofangrytown
This is false, take it from someone who has seen it.
You take bad contracts back that are 2 years. It helps the value as well.
Explore trading everyone. That includes Voracek and Giroux. Someone will make a massive payment for them.

The cap is the biggest problem this team has. Hexy is stuck. Until the bad money is gone...there will be very little change in this team. - iskatefast
lame excuse. hextall is part of the reason they have a cap crunch |

How would you like people to refer to the lines if not with numerics? By the centers? So we can't call Giroux a number one center because that would imply his line is the first line?
We going with letters or colours now? - mayorofangrytown
What does calling them by a number accomplish? If we get a more offensively talented C does that make Giroux not a 1C anymore? Getting a "2C" helps the team just as much as getting any other offensive guy would help the team. Points dont count for more if they are scored with Chris Vande Velde on your wing.
What matters is ice time and usage/matchups. Couturier will go up against the other teams best players and his ice time will reflect that no matter what C he is. |

All the dead money was brought in by the guy who is still currently employed by this franchise as a President. Tells you what a mess the front office is. An 80+ year old mettling owner overseeing a good old boys network. Great recipe for success. - PLindbergh31
I heard holmer had his protege Danny boy in the Shelley suite last night. After manning got rag dolled in the corner he whispered in his ear. "One day this will all be yours" as he put his arm around him |

What does it matter how we designate them then? If I call couturier the third line center it's not going to change his ice time is it? It's not going to change when he goes out on the ice. They've been designating lines 1 through 4 for a hundred years. |

When do we hold the polls to decide which players the team will keep this year? |

I really don't care what you call them. That is not my point. My point is that saying hey Coots is a 3C not a 2C really is meaningless. If we got a center that was offensively gifted that became a "2C" it would make this team better because we got a guy who was offensively gifted, not because we finally put Couturier where he should be at "3C." He would still go up against the other teams best lines like always. |

correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the '07 debacle get straightened out by Holmer flipping some bad contracts? |

The main improvements in 2007 off the top of my head:
-Trading Forsberg for Nashville's 1st, then flipping that back to them for the rights to Kimmo and Hartnell
-Trading Zhitnik for Coburn
-Trading for Biron
-Signing Briere (and not Gomez or Drury) |

I don't disagree.
Your earlier posts (not just today) have really shown a lot of care over the use of line designations. A third line center has always been your checking center historically. That's why people refer to Couturier as their prototypical 3C. That's regardless of ice time and matchups. |

Sooooo many people fail to understand this when I say I'd rather see Coots as a 3C. You gotta create matchup problems to win in this league. Trying have Coots be your shut down guy and put up above averga O numbers is asking way too much of him. There aren't many players in the league that can successfully swing both those duties. |

He cleared some cap space with the trade of Forsberg which I guess could be considered a bad contract. He move Zhitnick for Coburn and let some contract expire. Once he had the cap space that summer he could get some work done.
We desperately need cap space. You can't be this bad and still have no cap space. |

I understand that's how things used to be, but they are much different now. Puck moving defenseman never used to be a thing. Enforcers used to be a thing. Checking lines used to be a thing. |

Oh but you can.
Hextall might just need to bite the bullet and move AMac and a 2nd for a 4th or something if he feels that he really needs the cap room.
Thankfully moving Streit at the deadline shouldn't be hard and will give us some nice start to a little bit of breathing room. |

the only team that might float with off the top of my head is phoenix...they have plenty of cap space. would still need to eat some $ or take lesser bad contract back. |

One day after an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Colorado, things seemed worse for the 5-7-3 Flyers.
Goalie Michal Neuvirth, who played the entire game Tuesday night, had to visit a doctor; Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Mark Streit had to leave practice early for unknown reasons, and R.J. Umberger missed his third straight practice for an undisclosed injury.

Guess it is a matter of perspective. If you look at how he has been used that is not really what the team has asked of him though. That's what the fans want. Berube pretty much used him as a shutdown guy. And he plays with guys like Umberger. |
