He has scored at a 2nd line center. Yes. He is not a toews but he is a good second line center. But he is a center that needs a play making winger.
Couturier is the least of my worries. I know the team isn't a good mix. I see hakstoll was given 5 year deal for reason. They finally have talent in the system. After this deadline they could move some money and contracts put and try to reshape this roster better. Just looking at the system I feel Konecny would be a good fit with couturier is he has that playmaker skills which has would complement couturier better. - J35Bacher
Our two 1st line wingers have a combined 5 ES points in 424 ES minutes this season, most of that time spent with Giroux. But it's all the fault of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines that we aren't scoring goals. |

I really think that the right couple of moves can move the team in the right direction.
Here's the kind of trade I'd like to see.
Simmonds + Laughton to Buffalo for Reinhart, and maybe a pick. It would probably take that much to get Reinhart. But it helps both teams. Buffalo gets a checking line center and a RW that can help on the powerplay. They've got Eichel and ROR, so they're set down the middle.
For this year, we can play:
Raffl - G - Jake
Leier- Reinhart - Gagner
Read - Couturier - Schenn
Umberger - PEB - White/VdV
Maybe at the TDL, trade Read for a pick and move up Umberger.
Then you draft one of those top three wingers. They're probably not ready to come in next year, so you'd have to fill the gap with a FA. But let's say in 2 years you have:
Tkachuk - G - Jake
LW - Reinhart - Konecny
Raffl - Couturier - Schenn
That LW spot could be NAK/Lindblom or a FA. Or a player you get with a pick you get from trading Streit or others this year.
Look, they're not going to do this specific plan. But something like this is all that is needed. - TheGreat28
Calgary wants to make a big change. I would see if there would be a package to get Bennet. |

I do not understand why people here are upset and angry.
Anybody with half a sense of hockey could've looked at this roster at the start of the season and seen this coming a mile away. What we're seeing is not unexpected if you know how to analyze a team objectively. If you know how to analyze a team you also know that there really isn't anything the Flyers can do that will make this year better; there's nothing they can do until the TDL and those moves will be made with an eye to the future so they likely won't make a significant difference for next season.
So why be upset and angry when you're getting what you knew you'd get and know it can't/won't be different for a few years? Why exclaim that "something must be done now!" when you know that there is nothing that can be done now?
Many folks here need to calm the frank down. |

1 PP point is all MDZ has to show for 277 minutes of ice time. I think he's looked pretty good for the most part, so I cannot explain how our most dangerous ES defenseman last season has fallen off a production cliff. |

Exactly. Everything works together. When your top guys are producing then it allows your other lines to settle into their rolls. But when they don't then more pressure is put on your other guys to make up for that. Everything has to work together. |

Could this be the year we actually get the ping pong ball luck. We should have Kane. Time for karma to give us Matthews. - J35Bacher
With the benefit of hindsight I can say that I'm glad we don't. |

I'm fine with that too. Whatever they do, it will be a little painful because they're going to give up good assets. |

They will get better, but 15 games is a good chunk of the season. Almost 20%.
did we really expect a playoff team this year? I still think we are in for at least another year not including this year as a crap show. I dont think we are bad enough to grab a top five pick but now I dont know. How I see it just on the forward group alone we need a crap load of players. At least a first line lw and second line lw. We need to figure out the 2c. Coots isnt it and I have no clue how B schenn would play in that spot. - jmdodgeser4
BSchenn has been playing center on a secondary scoring line for quite a few games now. You should have some clue. |

Depends. I would be OK building a package around Simmonds and. Laughton. I like what Bennet brings. |

Why do you think a crappy team with an awful defense found it so easy to stop the Flyers 1st line last night? |

We're not just gonna throw out a mountain of historical data on the account of 15-games, tho, right?

I don't need to know historical or present data to know what this team is. Not sure what the point of even discussing this "data" is, because this team is going nowhere in the short term. So it doesn't really matter. |

I like Bennett too. I think he's part of Calgary's future though.
The reason I suggested Buffalo is because Reinhart wasted with ROR and Eichel on the roster. He's too skilled and offensively minded for a 3C role, and isn't super comfortable on RW. Buffalo would be best served using him as a trade chip.
Now, realistically, they may want more than Simmonds and Laughton. I think both players would be huge assets to Buffalo. But they also need help on D and Goal and would probably look to acquire players there if they trade Reinhart. |

Assuming that things don't magically turn around these are the guys I'm making available between now and the trade deadline or draft. I'm not calling for their heads this instant, which is what some of you believe we're doing every time we talk trade scenarios.
Simmonds- This is a sore subject for many. He is a very helpful player but the state of the franchise is such that he can't lock down a top six RW role and we have Konecny and NA-K in the system while the left side is pretty much desolate.
Streit- value is too high to hold onto. Just does not fit the window for this team to compete
Schultz- similar situation. Much less trade value but I'd rather get something than nothing.
LSchenn- If his replacement is Gudas I'll make a move for a pick with Luke. If theyre hoping Manning is his replacement I might look to keep Luke around, at a fair price that is.
Ganger- I don't see a long term fit for him here. Take what you can get.
Read- I still really like his defensive side but he's become a bit of an invisible player. They could probably stand to give a Leier or a Straka a shot at a cheaper price. I don't know how much trade interest Read would generate tbh regardless.
Vinny, AMac, RJ- I'm leaving these guys out. Any moves involving them are unlikely and even if they were made would probably require us taking even more trash back. |

I wonder if aa he top line needs a guy like pat maroon. Size. Plays a simple game. Gets to greasey areas. I almost feel if you keep giroux and voracek together then a guy like maroon seems like a good fit. Almost how beleksy flourished with Perry and Getzlaf. |

Hey, the team sucks, no argument there.
We're just talking about individuals like MDZ, G, Jake... those guys have always been more productive than they are right now... can't ignore that. |

That's dumb. Let's get really indignant and lay all the blame at the feet of one or two players as a means of furthering some sort of internet pissing match. |
