i agree. flyers will eat some money on as well I bet to get a better deal. - rinaldo
Why not? He'll be off the books after this year anyway. Between the prorated cap hit and eaten salary, he could be an easy fit on a team with little room to add.

“I just think Ron Hextall was left a mess. He really was. He inherited a situation that had a lot of problems. A lot of bad contracts. The smartest thing they can do is just battle their way through it. - Feanor
Flyers have about 670K in cap space, and Schenn is on an expiring contract. How much money can they eat, to sweeten the deal? - MJL
as much as the cap allows no? he is already counting against the cap so eating money isn't an issue at all. assuming it is for picks or prospects only deal.
The other thing is, if Friedman is right, Hextall has had the Schenns on the block and found no takers. I get Vinny being poison on the trade market, but if he can't get a sniff on either Schenn? - Jsaquella
Yeah. That's what I was thinking. I can see that bothe schenns were shopped but hexy prob got offers that weren't to his liking.

In terms of eating salary, in the big picture, we're talking about in the ball park of about 300K eaten. I don't see that adding up to much better deal.

how od you figure only 300k? they could eat as much as the cap allows I believe.

Or was asked to eat money. Not a big deal in and of itself, but you can only have 3 deals where you eat money at one time. Might need to eat money on another trade, why waste it on a Schenn deal, unless you're getting a good return.

this is the Devil's work.....I'd rather stick to the irrational overreaction, Hakstol is in over his head, we need to have patience but lets trade and fire everybody, schtick

Maybe if we get upset, and I mean really upset, it'll somehow make everything better. It hasn't been tried yet, so why not?
I will know that this franchise is truly lost, when the one player who can play on every single team in the league and excel is the one we trade
I tried to think about what this team would look like without him, and I laughed - AllInForFlyers
Obviously if you're going to trade Giroux, it would have to be for a huge return. How does this team look now, with him on it? If you could theoretically trade him and set the team up for the future, which would be hard to do, you would have to consider that. I don't think a franchise making the type of deal that I would envision it would take, to be willing to move Giroux, would be truly lost in making that deal.

In terms of bad contracts, and what Hextall was left with, there is Lecavalier, and the issue of MacDonald. Umberger was acquired by Hextall. Right now, those are the only 3 bad contracts the Flyers have. In my opinion, Umberger and Lecavalier are gone after next season. Umberger's deal expires, and Lecavalier will retire, if not sooner. That leaves MacDonald to deal with moving forward.
The Flyers issues, far more than cap and bad contracts, is player mix, and the gap between the current forward corp, and the developing defenseman. Those are far bigger issues than contracts and the cap. - MJL
well he was also left with Hartnell and Pronger (obviously Pronger was an unfortunate contract issue due to injury). So yes, Hextall brought in Umberger but Hartnell was on Holmgren.

Hartnell is still an effective scoring line player.
