Martel has me excited. His skating is simply awesome, and I hope he can be the Flyers's own Lilliputian skill guy.
If anyone knows from watching a lot of Phantoms games, do you think Cousins could step in and already be an NHL quality bottom six player right now? Is there something he has to work on?...because his offensive stats say he doesn't have much to prove in that facet - Mononoke
Is there cap space to bring him up? |

I haven't watched any phantoms games. I wish Comcast would pick a few up throughout the year. From what I saw of his callup last year. He has work to do off the puck and skating wise to threaten at this level.
Edit - Speaking of he just assisted on another Straka goal. Cousins has 15 pts in 10 GP and a +8 |

Part 2.
If he was called up, would he be given the chance to play more than fourth line? Or is it Laughton treatment. |

Oh who knows. Would be a log jam at center though. I'd like for Laughton to stay at center all year in his natural position. The kid has really shown improvement the last thing I want them to do is throw him on the wing |

Great hockey night. Calgary and Columbus both win. Flyers are now 3 pts from league bottom.
The kids have gone off with Cousins return to the lineup. 13 goals in the last 2. Defense getting healthy and rounding into form and Stolarz sporting a 1.89 and .930% in 8 GP. |

Because there is no deal that we would even remotely win.The Flyers have no leverage. |

The logic of the Hartnell deal made sense; the return in hindsight came up short. The cap space logic still makes sense, and it will pay dividends eventually. Hartnell is not irreplaceable, and he wouldn't make the Flyers a cup contender or even a playoff team probably. I still miss him and he would help, but he's no spring chickie and we are in a rebuild.
Giroux is a franchise cornerstone number one center. That is irreplaceable. He's still young and could be in his late prime years when they contend. If they trade him they won't get a better player or equal player most likely. It will be a gigantic step backwards to the point we may not have a number one center when the defensemen start trickling in. Any deal will have the Flyers give away the best player in that deal, and parting with a 27 year old #1 center with the team on the verge of contending makes zero sense. It is not even remotely the same as Hartnell. And many of us on here have been on the record saying we would trade Giroux for a player like Johansen if that materialized somehow. That is one of the few trades that would make any sense. |

Jake and g are elite players that will fit in any system in this league. Their contracts won't hamper the flyers because the course the flyers are taking with developing their own. I wouldn't mind these guys sharing stories to our young players years down the road about the trials and tribulations that their going through now. I'm not nearly as worried as some about the age gap

Huge if on a potential Giroux trade. The last time a star center was traded by a NHL team, Tyler Seguin went to Dallas for a bag of magic beans & a solid defensive prospect. The one prior to that was Joe Thornton for a second line winger, a 4th line center & a good second pair defenseman.
If somebody comes in and really knocks their socks off, great, I'm all for a Giroux trade. But they need to really hit a home run if they're moving Giroux. At the very least they can wait a year or two, have a better idea where they will be, and visit the idea.
But right now, I don't see a realistic return that helps them as much as keeping Giroux would |

i dont want to trade him for magic beans myself, but i think considering tge state of affairs all avenues need to be considered. |

I haven't seen anybody who said he's absolutely untouchable, but I don't see a realistic deal that makes them better than if they keep Giroux.
EDIT: Best case scenario is they get the kind of return Yashin got the Senators |
