I looked at the box score and the Rochester Americans have two dear friends to the Flyers faithful: Jason Akeson and Bobby Sanguinetti |

The logic of the Hartnell deal made sense; the return in hindsight came up short. The cap space logic still makes sense, and it will pay dividends eventually. Hartnell is not irreplaceable, and he wouldn't make the Flyers a cup contender or even a playoff team probably. I still miss him and he would help, but he's no spring chickie and we are in a rebuild.
Giroux is a franchise cornerstone number one center. That is irreplaceable. He's still young and could be in his late prime years when they contend. If they trade him they won't get a better player or equal player most likely. It will be a gigantic step backwards to the point we may not have a number one center when the defensemen start trickling in. Any deal will have the Flyers give away the best player in that deal, and parting with a 27 year old #1 center with the team on the verge of contending makes zero sense. It is not even remotely the same as Hartnell. And many of us on here have been on the record saying we would trade Giroux for a player like Johansen if that materialized somehow. That is one of the few trades that would make any sense. - Mononoke
The team is on the verge of contending? One thing that needs to be emphasized is that it would not be a trade him for the best deal you can get scenario, it would be trade him in the right deal for the right return, or otherwise don't make the deal. In the right deal with the right return, trading Giroux is not an awful idea.

Part 2.
If he was called up, would he be given the chance to play more than fourth line? Or is it Laughton treatment. - flyer_nutter
What's the Laughton treatment? Laughton is 11:13 per game at ES, which is not much different than players such as Simmonds and B Schenn are averaging.

But they need to really hit a home run if they're moving Giroux. - Jsaquella
Yeah, would have to be some combination of young(er) productive players and/or 1st-round picks and/or a team's best prospects.
Like say if Ottawa wanted to bring him 'home'... I wouldn't accept anything less than Stone, Zibanejad, Chabot and a 1st.
If you're Ottawa, why would you do that? |

That's exactly the kind of return it would take. Ottawa wouldn't do that because Giroux would not put them over the top. It likely has to be a rare combination of a team that would want Giroux to be the missing piece, while still being able to give up a return that would not lessen their team to the point of no longer being a contender. It would be a very difficult trade to put together, making the odds of it happening, for that and other reasons, very slim.

So a team that has a rich prospect pool, but has a veteran team on the ice with a limited/closing window, and a urgent need for a top-line player?
Hmmm.... I'm drawing a blank. |

Also need a team with cap space for the foreseeable future and a team Giroux would be willing to waive his NTC to go to |

Probably not. That's the crux of my point, you're so unlikely to get value-let alone winning or losing the deal-that it's a non starter right now. |

The only semi-realistic teams, who have something of a need and have the assets to make it work, I can think of are Nashville & Winnipeg. And Nashville is a huge stretch, because I can't see them take on that contract and give up a load of prospects |

I think you have to get a potential number 1 center back. This team has no one that can step into that role. If we somehow miraculously won the lottery, then you could make the argument to trade Giroux for what could amount to the missing pieces. It's more or less the same scenario I proposed at last draft. Funny how things change in six months. Then, I was ripped for even thinking of it. Now, everyone is thinking it. |

I want proven young talent if I'm trading G. Picks are nice but you can't risk that team going on a tear and those picks end up being late 1sts.

For
Taylor Hall
Leon Draisaitl
2016 1st(not lotto protected)
That's what it would take for me. Good luck getting the Oilers to agree to it.

Almost said Fallout 4 but then I realized you said 360 not XBox One. How about GTA V? |

Thanks, that's a possibility. I have GTA IV but haven't tried V yet. Is it better? What about the older fallout games? I've been behind on my gaming the last few years |

As would I. If they won and took Matthews you pretty much immediately start shopping Laughton or commit to him as a LW.
I would also pretty quickly look to acquire another LW via trade if they draft a Center. |

I think there's even less of an argument to trade him if they win the lottery. Wouldn't you want to have 3 centers like Giroux, Matthews and Couturier for the next 7 years? |

I'll clarify by saying new to me, not necessarily a new release. There are a lot of 360 games I have not played. I can think of the following as games I've played
Halo reach
Halo 4
Red dead redemption (hats off to tangent man I believe for recommending that one a couple years ago)
GTA IV
Assassins creed III |

V is way better from the story standpoint alone. It'll hold your interest for sure.
I also can't reccomd Fallout 3 enough. I probably logged more hours on that game than any other game from that generation of consoles. |
