So, you would change nothing? - BiggE
As far as players changes from the outside, yes, I would do nothing at this point, simply because it's not going to change anything. They need internal change from the current roster, and some growth. I'm not going to rush a player to put a band aid on something or to appease some fans.
The only thing that I think is important, is to try and get MacDonald up to the Flyers as soon as possible.

Do you think that bringing him up for a 3 or 4 games to shake things up, while making it clear to him that it's only going to be for 3 or 4 games, would do everlasting damage? - BiggE
everyone assumes all D need 3-5 years to develop???? that is a not a written law!!! I'm for letting kid's develop at THEIR own pace.....ie Provorov may be ready before Morin...Morin may be ready before Hagg...No one knows when your talking younger players....to guess or suggest this team is going no where because Hextall doesn't want to rush players is idiotic.
personally I hoped to see a couple of Kids up with the big club this year and if Hextall doe's make a few trades I may get my wish sooner then later.
In todays NHL there are plenty of teenagers that are contributing, with the way the cap works a team needs those young players with cheap cap hits to play. Its not like the older players are doing anything that kids couldn't do. It depends on th player. |

Agreed. Plus between Streit, both Schenns, Simmonds, Read, MDZ, Raffl, etc..., you have plenty of players to choose from to move for picks and prospects at the deadline. - BiggE
You can move a Simmonds or Streit and it's not a white flag.
I'd wait before considering a Giroux trade. In two years, you'll have a better idea of a timeline for prospects, and how close you are, and Giroux will not likely see a huge drop in value. Also his contract might be more tenable to another team after two more years have been paid |

Hextall should do something, stick to the plan, and don't panic. Put what is best for any young player first, rather than prioritize a sinking ship. - MJL
So again, you wouldn't change a thing right now? You are ok with not even being remotely in games?
It's one thing to struggle while going through a rebuild, but getting trounced by a lousy team like Colorado at home is just pathetic. IIRC, you thought this team had a legit chance at the playoffs going into this season. Still feel that way?

macdonald ? why?

Exactly. Cousins will need to go through waivers next fall. Seems to make sense to see what he can do at the NHL level at this point. - BiggE
correct. now if the flyers were contenders they wouldn't have the luxury to do that. Now they can. you should take advantage of this season to really evaluate the borderline guys...you know what you have with the bottom 6 guys. they are not going to get any better. call up the cous!!!!
VV and PEB. not the issue by any means. good solid 4th line players. guys how you can find over the summer easily. Guys like that you can move at some point for a pick. I mean it is all about stock piling picks right? |

There are levels of development. Developing into a player who is capable of playing in the NHL full time is one level. Developing into a top defenseman in the NHL capable of playing in all situations, and leading a team's defense corps, is another level. That takes time.

once again i think Macdonald is a way better choice than some d men we have now who do you send down Manning will be claimed... maybe not a bad thing but does he have a future upside we don't want to lose for nothing...it all comes down to roster space and who you leave unprotected to be claimed on waivers |

although i agree that Cousins would be great option and could maybe give the flyers a spark...who do you send down...they are only allowed a 23 man roster so someone has to go the other way...Vinny has a NMC he isnt going...now exposing Hamburgler to waivers isnt that much of a risk but once again who do you send down - flyer186
Umberger is only real option, because of Vinny's NMC |

Agree 100%, and I'd be very open to moving both Streit and Simmonds. I cannot see anyway that this team is a contender before 18-19 at the earliest, so moving Streit is a no brainer. Simmonds, at that time, will be 30. As a 182 lb power forward who is only an average skater, you have to wonder where his game will be by then.

I to felt they had a chance to make the playoff's...then groundhog day struck, and some of those pathetic efforts crept into this season from last year.

Please, folks, face reality. Manning's not a kid. His upside is as a 7th man at best. If you lose him, big whoop.

Manning, if claimed, is no big loss. I seriously doubt he gets claimed. At this point I don't know if he has upside beyond 6-7 defenseman. |

Read my posts, does it sound like I'm okay with the level of play and effort the Flyers have played with in the last 10 games or so?
I still think this team has the roster on paper to contend for a playoff spot, and should be a better team than it is, as does Hextall. At the current level of play, they're about a week or two from being out of it.
As far as making call ups and a "shake up", I would not do that. I would prioritize what is best for the younger players.

to be fair I don't think there's much difference to what he would bring compared to most of those guys...If Hextall does move out a Streit or a Schenn then he's next man up.

For sure. I'd waive Umberger immediately and get Cousins up here. He has enough AHL experience and he has to go through waivers if they don't keep him on the roster next season. He should be in the NHL.
It's not like they have anything to lose.

I think Manning can be a depth 6/7 defenseman in the NHL, and there is a chance he could be claimed.
