I've gotta disagree with this... He made some big saves after the first bad goal.
But goddamn that last one
Leafs fought hard to put that first one behind them, and he ruins it in the last minute. - Feeling Glucky?
#1 the way he was handling the puck at the end, he just looked disgusted with the whole situation.
#2 When he raised his hands at Phaneuf during one of the 3rd period power plays as if to say "what are you doing". Yeah maybe Phaneuf did make a weird play there but you have no right to single out anyone Bernier and that's not a great team move to do when guys are fighting for you.
#3 O'neil on leafs lunch this week or last week made a comment that when the Leaf fans gave him the sarcastic cheer last year while having a rough game, he was majorly pissy after the game like they had no right to give him a hard time. (Entitled attitude and doesn't do well in the face of adversity) Reminds me of Kessel.
That's why I feel he has the propensity to pack it in after a bad goal unlike Reimer who battles for the team.
But yeah that last goal was pretty brutal as well, I agree. It's too bad. I'm sure he's not a bad guy but he doesn't seem like he's a great locker room guy either. |

I hope we don't see him for another 10 games - Garnie
I kind of don't want Reimer to play as solid as he's been lately because I don't want this team to make a charge to 9th place in the standings...but I gotta hand it to him, and Bernier is sickening at this point. You gotta hand it to the Leafs as a whole lately for having some compete, and then Bernier undoes it for them, gotta be demoralizing. They deserved better tonight. This is Reimer's opening, he can take the net from Bernier indefinitely if he plays just decent. |

If that's true, that's a real red flag of an attitude...like the Salute thing last year. Not owning it when you're (frank)ing up and getting indignant about it is some weak poop. |

I don't have any expectations that they'll do well, so in an individual game I am cheering for them to win, but then when they lose I say it's to be expected and seeing them at the bottom of the standings is a long-term good thing. But no, I can't really sit watching the game and want the other team to score. It's basically a win-win proposition as a fan this year. If they win, that's fun, if they don't, good thing they stopped trading away first round picks. |

SO ...
Next time we are debating the goaltending, I don't want to hear anymore about Bernier's superior rebound control.
That rebound was a stupid as I have ever seen. It is like he actually passed it to the forward. He actually kicked out a muffin from the point 10 freaking feet.
I seriously don't ever want to see him in a Leafs uniform again. Time for waivers (if we can?) and pray someone picks him up. - Aetherial
those burdened with marriage certificates... please take note.
but seriously - it wasn't all that bad was it... only 2 bad ones of 4. and his hair looked great post game.
so all good. |

there's the core of the issue right there.
when Reimer has a poor game he's the first one to critique himself and accept blame.
when have we heard Bernier take any responsibility for anything ... EVER? |

Bernier will be playing in Europe in 2017... If he's lucky.
Hopefully sooner. - As_I_See_It
Conditioning stint to Novosibirsk.
FYI I chose Novosibirsk because their hockey team has a logo not entirely different from the les habitant... would be very fitting for lil Jonny. |

Yeah. You don't know if any of that is true though.
You make it to the NHL you're a competitor.
These posts don't contain any value - Cherry--Skoal
if you are looking for value from your perspective in posts on this website... you may be searching in the wrong place
as for competitors... just because someone is drafted doesn't mean that they have dealt with any major adversity nor have they fought through ... how many guys are drafted in the middle rounds and are never heard from again?
what about the Leafs drafting Biggs? would you label him as a competitor or not? |

agreed - apart from one "little" item.
Whether this is Reimer's opening is up to Babcock and management. If they insist on continuing with the 'prove management was correct in trading and then signing this guy(Bernier) theme" - then Reimer won't get a fair shot - just like he hasn't for the past two years.
But this will require courage on the part of Shanahan, Hunter, Lou and Dubas.. to not continue to pump Bernier's tires behind the scenes.
Play which ever goalie plays well. If you give a stinker like Reimer did against Dallas but still hang in to win the game.. do you stay in net?
If you give up two ridiculous one's like Bernier did against the Rangers... well I know what my reaction would be.
If Bernier really was injured (or not) then perhaps its time for a conditioning stint. |

I wouldn't be able to add much to the discussion in regards to Bernier's play since he was sent away from our team and arrived in Toronto. What I can say, however, is that Bernier was actually supposed to be our number 1 franchise netminder. Then a guy named Quick came along and rendered him expendable. Personally, despite his horrific play this season, I wouldn't give up on this guy just yet. He showed the potential for being a star #1 goalie with us whenever he would give Quick the night off. Ironically Kings fans often cheered for him instead of Quick to play many nights. Myself included. the only possible major drawback I see in Bernier's game is simply genetics. He's a tiny goaltender by today's standards. Whereas Pekka Rinne can make saves solely on the genes he inherited from his parents (height) that have nothing to do with his athletic ability, Bernier is forced to play a much more mistake free game because his margin for error is somewhat smaller being small. If Riemer is seen as the franchises goalie of the future, that can't be a positive development. |

He did own it last night saying "I cost my team 2 pts".
But I also remember him saying something along the lines of "why would I get pulled" when asked about not getting the hook at one point last year. |

As a former goalie and goalie coach it's easy to see when a guy is fighting it mentally, and Bernier certainly is fighting it big time. If he was a baseball player he would be in an 0 for 38 slump right now .
In practice he would make those saves and control those rebounds 100% of the time. Not 99, not 99.9, but 100%.
Unfortunately for him as Babcock says he has to gain his own confidence and believe in himself. Tough league to do that but he will either figure it out or end up in the same league as Andrew Raycroft, Vesa Toskala and Justin Pogge. |

I wonder if the home sitch is getting to him: I distinctly remember when his kid was born and him commenting on not getting much sleep; now with the Wives thing, maybe it's affecting his game. |

He gets paid to play hockey, if he's letting outside issues such as these effect his game he needs to re-evaluate if he wants to play hockey. |
