If you have legs, can skate somewhat, and can just stand in front of the goalie basically waving your stick back and forth on the ice, you're about on par with Manning. - jmatchett383
I think he's played a bit better of late, but it's not enough for me to have any desire to expand the Manning experiment. He's a bubble guy. He can fill in for a game or two, and be an AHL stud. |

Well, again, I haven't seen a ton of games this year, but Manning has just been pretty flat-out bad from what I've seen. I'm all for giving guys time to adjust, but even last game, he goes into corners and either loses battles 100% of the time or he gets the puck and handles it with less ease than Lukas Krajicek. |

Yeah, it's really odd that MacDonald doesn't even seem to be on the radar. He's going to have 4 years left, and you'd figure they'd want to at least try to get him back up to rebuild his game or just be a better option than Manning. - Jsaquella
At this point, it doesn't appear that they think much of his game at all.

Without a doubt. Those players (Raffl, PEB, to a lesser extent VDV and White) give you the same solid effort game in, game out. And they are earning quite a bit less with different expectations. - wolfhounds
The big issue with Brayden Schenn has always been that when he's on his game he's a handful and effective. When he's off his game, he's about as effective as a loose stick laying on the ice.
His possession numbers are alarming. But worse-to some-there's too many games where Schenn is invisible. Even games he's scored goals in, you don't hear his name at all before or after the goal. He's got to be mixing it up in the corners, being a effective forechecker, creating some level of havoc in the offensive zone...and far too often that doesn't happen.
Even Couturier, who has issues producing, is creating chances and effectively keeping the puck out of the Flyers end. You need the scoring, but if you're not producing there's still a need to do the other stuff effectively. |

He has, no denying it. There's no real reason I can see to keep him up or in the lineup. |

They are already burning most of his cap space without him here, isn't the difference between the remainder and what Manning makes almost a wash? if so, might as well play the guy you are paying, since you can't bury his cap hit in the AHL anyway. I'd get it if Manning was head and shoulders above MacDonald, but it's so obviously not the case. |

Yeah, that could be the case. Still all that dead cap room.... |

Manning has played 13 games this season and gotten a lot of OZ starts, and yet his only point came when Ghost received his barely accurate pass, and made an amazing individual move to make space and get off a shot.
I get Hextall not wanting to risk losing another asset to waivers after Porter. I just don't think Manning is an asset worth protecting. |

The difference would be $325K. With the Flyers up against the cap, that's a big number. Although, with Streit on LTIR, this may be the time to do it. |

For the record, that was an amazing play, and done off of his backhand. |

I was fine with giving Manning a shot. He's shown nothing that suggests he can be a regular NHLer in the 15 or whatever games he's played. If you're going to continue an audition, fine. Let's see what Alt, Hagg or Gostisbehere(prior to the Streit injury) can do.
That's my issue. Manning isn't close to effective, try the next guy or bring AMac up, because at least he's better |

Yeah, if he's claimed its not an asset that could possibly be used to get another asset. He's not going to get you anything in a trade. |

Absolutely. At least Alt and Hagg are unkowns. Manning is a bad known. |

Not a huge fan on BSchenn on the 1st line, but it's better than him not being in the lineup at all. |

If I were Hak, I'd force Simmer to play 1LW and just leave him there.
The pieces behind him fit so much better if that could work. |

It's baffling. There were times, notably in the 11/12 series vs. both Pittsburgh and New Jersey, where he was noticeable every time he was on the ice. Whether or not he was scoring, he was a buzzsaw out there hitting, creating chances, and basically outworking older, stronger players. So he CAN do it. But for the better part of 2 years, that's been absent. |

Funny thing is, Manning isn't even some draft pick you picked and developed and you're giving multiple chances to because pride and you just don't want to give up on a draft pick.
Manning was a FA signing by the organization. It's not like he was Sam Morin. |
