Yes because in the Joe Thorton, Patrick Roy and trade, they really got a lot back...

Exactly my point, why would Pittsburgh trade their superstar for those types of returns.

Thats like saying well Filip Forsberg was only worth Martin Erat.

You Me and Dupuis is all over this! Fans of these other organizations don't really understand the value of a true superstar in this league. Its nonsense to even try and approach the subject it seems. Just ask yourself what would the Islanders want for John Tavares. What would the Lighting really want for Steven Stamkos if he was already under contract? What would the Capitals want for Alexander Ovechkin? That is what you are REALLY comparing Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby too and what you should be asking yourselves! And really, not one of those guys have ever won a cup let alone been to a finals with the exception of Stamkos, yet Crosby and Malkin have been to two won one!

John Tavares is 25 years old and signed at a cap hit of 5.5 million until the end of the 17-18 season. He would be worth more to teams than Malkin based on that alone. If the Islanders were stupid enough to trade Tavares then yes, Bennett + would make sense to a team like the Flames since they are going to get around 10 years of production from a proven elite talent, and their cap structure wouldn't be immediately (frank)ed by the trade.

Nobody is trying to claim that Malkin isn't a top 5 talent, but you guys have to understand why a team isn't going to trade away their future for 4 or 5 years of declining production from a player making 9.5 million dollars a year.

Some of these trade proposals are pretty ridiculous for various reasons. Weber for Malkin is a trade that makes a ton of sense for both teams. If the Pens want pieces (you know, so they can actually have a complete team) something like Ellis and Wilson along with a couple of picks and prospects to equal Malkin's value would make sense, as well.

Seriously?

Lets just reverse it and you give us Weber for a package of Bonino and Dumoulin?

As someone who lives in Vancouver and is a fan of both teams it would take the following

To Vancouver

Malkin (9.5)

To Pittsburgh

Horvat (or McCann and Shinkaruk)
Vrbata
Hamhuis
2016 1st

Boils down to Horvat and the 2016 1st as Vrbata and Hamhuis are UFA's in there to make the cap and the value work for this year

Doesn't make sense for Vancouver. Yes they get an elite C who automatically becomes top line, but they don't really have much to surround him with and you take a dismal D and make it worse.

I would rather trade Crosby away. You can get a bigger value from a Canadian team. Edmonton would be a good choose. Pit gets Taylor Hall, Ted Purcell, Griffin Reinhart, and 2017 1st Rd and Edm get Crosby and Kuntiz.

Also Calgary you could make a trade work. Pit gets Sean Monahan, Sam Bennett, TJ Brodie and 2017 1st Rd. and Calgary get Crosby, Kunitz, and Derrick Poulit.

In both cases you have to trade Dupuis or Kunitz with Crosby for cap relief and put Scuderi on waivers. I would also trade David Perron to a team for 2nd Rd pick 16 or 17

LINES COULD BE Offense:

Bennett Malkin Kessel
Sam Bennett Monahan Hornqvist
Dupuis Bonino Fehr
Plotnikov Cullen Sprong

Defense pairs

Letang Mattaa
Brodie Cole
Lovejoy Dumoulin

Malkin for Stamkos is literally the stupidest thing written. What sense does that make? Trading what you call a #1 center in Malkin for another #1 center in Stamkos...... It is a pointless lateral move!

The only deal that makes any sense is Malkin/Crosby for Weber + 2nd line Center. Pens need D badly.

Weber and Craig Smith for Crosby is a better deal
