I didn't know he could only keep his job if he won the Cup every year.
Sometimes, teams have a hangover the next year, but I guess Pitt was immune and it was all Bylsmas fault.
My Sabres outshot your team 145-17 last time, you barely won the game and we had a Goalie from a YMCA in Sweden. Coached by Byslma.
We are thrilled to have him. - -JCDC-
Ever stop to think that the pens firing him might have been a wake up call for him to finally change his coaching tactics? That might just be what made him a good coach again. Because he wasn't when he was with Pittsburgh. |

Ek continues to live in a fantasy world. Oh yeah move Malkin & his $9.5 M salary at the snap of the finger, no problem. Not gonna happen, dream on. |

Bylsma was always a regular season stud. His issue came in the post season when he was too stubborn to make adjustments and got out coached every single series (including the ones he won). I don't think Bylsma's a bad coach, and a lot of his short comings were more on the GM than himself, but he is definitely to blame on some things. Still would rather have him than Johnston right now. |

I'd take almost any coach in the NHL right now over Johnston at this point. |

So do you ... trade Giroux - Oneonta Penguin
Depends on the offer, also depends on how long the D will be revamped. No guarantees with prospects. They may be good Dmen but will any of them be top pair quality? |

Why would you give Auston Matthews away for Malkin? |

Can they not just fire Johnston and start scoring again? |

I'd also be impressed if Gio and Letang stayed healthy for more than two games. That's too much injury juju on one pairing.
Also Sam Bennett has proven nothing thus far. Not trading Malkin for a defenseman who can't stay healthy and what is basically a prospect.
Finally, a 2RD is way more important right now than a 1LD. I understand that Maatta isn't playing great right now, but Dumoulin is showing top pairing potential and Maatta was amazing before this slump. Plus we have a blue chip LD prospect that could be ready as soon as later this season. As far as RDs go? We have Letang and then... Benlovejoy. - Victoro311
Good because you would never get bennett for malkin, not a chance the flames trade him. Very good chance he's their best player soon |

A number one LH shooting Dman and a solid 2 line centerman is a must on Malkin's return. How about Mark Giordano and Sam Bennet for Malkin?i think it's good for both sides. Imagine Malkin and Monohan down the middle for the next 5 years? The Flames showed last year they can get by with TJ Brodie as their go to guy on defence. I am positive Gio and Letang would make a pretty good top pairing and Sam Bennett will be a superstar in this league in the near future. - Itsjustarash
imagine monahan and bennett down the middle for the next 10 years |

Based on what? Making the biggest move this year? Putting a bunch of talented players together for a poopy coach? - Zac_O
Based on the trades he already has made.
Name me 1 trade that has worked out in the Pens favor that Rutherford has made |

A little early after only 1 and a half years don't you think? His worst decision this far is Despres for Lovejoy followed closely by hiring Johnston. Still not all that bad. The pens team is set up well. The coach is whats failing. |

The age gap might be a deal breaker, but Bennett will never be as good as Malkin. |

If they deal 1, meaning 1 of Malkin or Crosby, my thinking is they mine as well deal both in separate deals and completely overhaul this team, while ridding themselves of ridiculous contracts if at all costs! And while we're at it, the guy who started this piece, what on earth? We're talking about Malkin right? Not Kunitz! He's mentioning 31 yr old Shattenkirk, Marleau, Brent Burns, good grief! If you make a deal for one of the 3 best players on the planet, to include both Crosby and Malkin, you get younger and cheaper! There are a few teams that line up with the Pens with such trades, Calgary,Colorado, and Edmonton.
My 2 cents:
To Colorado - Crosby, Kunitz, Bennett, Pouliot, Scuderi
To Pittsburgh - Duchene, Landeskog, Barrie
To Calgary - Malkin, Dupuis, Letang, 1st
To Pittsburgh - Monahan, Gaudreau, Brodie
Fantasy land, but nonetheless! You Calgary fans that think Malkin isn't fetchin Bennett, oh boy, need a dose of reality! |

After the Cup year he couldn't beat any team above a seven seed. Bylsma may be a better coach than Johnston but that isn't saying much. They are both bad. |
