No Deal

I like the AV's, Id follow them more if I had the time. You seem to be pretty in tune with them. What do you think the AVs would take for Malkin?

If they deal 1, meaning 1 of Malkin or Crosby, my thinking is they mine as well deal both in separate deals and completely overhaul this team, while ridding themselves of ridiculous contracts if at all costs! And while we're at it, the guy who started this piece, what on earth? We're talking about Malkin right? Not Kunitz! He's mentioning 31 yr old Shattenkirk, Marleau, Brent Burns, good grief! If you make a deal for one of the 3 best players on the planet, to include both Crosby and Malkin, you get younger and cheaper! There are a few teams that line up with the Pens with such trades, Calgary,Colorado, and Edmonton.

My 2 cents:
To Colorado - Crosby, Kunitz, Bennett, Pouliot, Scuderi
To Pittsburgh - Duchene, Landeskog, Barrie

To Calgary - Malkin, Dupuis, Letang, 1st
To Pittsburgh - Monahan, Gaudreau, Brodie

Fantasy land, but nonetheless! You Calgary fans that think Malkin isn't fetchin Bennett, oh boy, need a dose of reality!

Honestly, don't want Malkin. Hes one of the top players in the game, but 9m for him, big contract in MacKinnon next. Then the Avs become the Pens with too much money tied up in forwards, and looking to fill the holes with whatever they have left.

Geno needs to find his way for a team who are still looking for their own superstar. For me, the Preds makes the most sense of where he should go.

Trading Malkin is pointless...he's not the problem, and his departure is not the solution. I don't even think the solution is firing Johnson. I see two problems:

1. Upper management thinks they know more than the coach, and the players (and everybody else) know it. Hence, the players don't respect Johnson and so it's harder for them to believe in his strategy. The management is putting their input in where it is not wanted or useful, and if they would just let the coach do his job and support him then the players will follow.

2. The D is not suited for the game that Johnson wants to play. They need to make at least 1-2 trades to improve the back end. I suggest good targets are J Johnson (CLB) and C Gunnarson (STL). I think Johnson could be had for a Pouliot package, and Gunnarson for a bottom 6 player + pick. To make room, Scuderi (maybe to STL) and Kunitz (to anybody) will need to be sent out.

This will give a much stronger D:
Letang + Maatta
Johnson + Gunnarson
Demoulin + Cole
Lovejoy

Getting Johnson would take Pouliot and probably a valuable draft pick. Can you guys really afford to burn the candle at both ends for this long? When will trading your future come back to bite this team?

Not a Pens fan; don't have the answers. An astounding package of prospects, picks, and some vets returning to balance cap might actually be worth trading Malkin.

At least until you guys get to the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs and you miss horribly Malkin's ability to take the team on his back.

Just seems hard to argue that the Pens' window is doing anything but slowly closing.

The age gap might be a deal breaker, but Bennett will never be as good as Malkin.
- ehabs9

he's also about 10 years younger and will likely be an elite #1 centre

Pittsburgh just needs to learn how to overcome diversity.

Why would they need to overcome an old, old wooden ship?

Not a fan of either team but didn't the pens just win the cup 6 or 7 years ago? Calgary won their only cup 25+ years ago. Not to mention the Pens also won back to back in the early 90's? Not sure you have room to talk.

Yes....diversity is a team killer...you need to develope 23 of the exact same player in order to be successful, and they should all have the same colour skin, hair, eyes and worship the same God.

- Bigern4MVP

Elite? Yeah....he'll be good, but not as good as many other centres of his era such as Draisaitl, McDavid, Strome, Mathews, Nugent Hopkins, Eichel, Johansson, Barkov, Galchenyuk or Mackinnon.....or does elite mean 'top 30' to you? To me elite no1 Center means top 6 or 7.

Calgary makes the playoffs one year . . .

. . . 6 - 12 - 1 . . .

The Pens are in shambles and still 10-6
