Big changes are coming to the NHL All-Star Game this season.
First, say good-bye to the player's fantasy draft. They don't want it, and so we'll never have another deliciously awkward moments brought you by the brilliance of Alex Ovechkin. Second, this year's game will be separated into three 20-minute, three-on-three games culminating from a four-team mini-playoff. The teams will be divided by conference, which will give way to a final between each side's representative for a 20-minute three-on-three game - with a cash prize! Looks like things are going to be a bit crazy in Nashville this season.

The Sabres didn't lose that game because of the coaches challenge. They lost the game because they were badly outplayed and mostly outclassed by a better team. |

Sure, we were outplayed for stretches. Most would have thought getting a point would be an upset. But that is separate from the argument of whether the NHL should focus on this one specific infraction only on plays where a goal is scored. |

To counter that thought, there are always games that teams lose while outplaying the other teams and the reverse is true, where the team that is being outplayed catches fire late and wins.
Without that call overturned, the latter easily could've been the case last night. |

How is 6", at that pace, blatantly offside?
To me it's comical that offsides is going to be scrutinized to that degree.
If that's how the league wants to play it then every single goal should automatically be reviewed for zone entry, whether it was 5 sec or 2 minutes prior.....because you know some teams will benefit from this rule and others not so much.
This time it potentially cost us the game. - nikel
Ennis jumped in the air, his feet no longer touching the ice. He was in well before the puck entered.
AS soon as they scored, I did not celebrate, I said "that is coming back"
But kudos NHL you have taken the worst part of the NFL game and added it to yours. There is no more instant gratification, once a goal is scored, you now have to wait to see if it was a good goal or not because a player may have been a 1/2" offside. |

People bringing up good points.
In a crucial time in the game with under 3 minutes to go in the third period, Say the opposing team enters the zone offside, your player takes a penalty. Can you challenge that play to say we should not be shorthanded because the play should have never happened? |

Maybe a time limit - if the reviewed play takes place more than 15 seconds prior to scoring a goal it's not reviewable.
Or 30.
Something to stop the madness. |

Sabres are on pace to have 14 goals disallowed this year. Say the average is 10 per team. That is 300 goals you are taking out of the game in a league that is already hurting for scoring.
Take 300 goals away from last year and you are down to 2.49 goals per game. Which is the lowest it would have been since 1955. |

So Howard on WGR looked it up, 8 have been disallowed on offsides, Sabres have 3. There have been 8 more goals disallowed on goaltender interference. |

I still can't figure out why every other rule change (hybrid icing, 3 on 3 OT, etc) gets implemented in the AHL first but something as major as this one, doesn't. It makes no sense to me whatsoever. |

Reinhart's disallowed goal was scored with 1:23 left in penalty. Play resumed with 1:23 left. So the NHL thinks it make sense to not put the time back on the clock? I never realized that before. Unreal. - Khymlev13
Absolute best point made in this long running debate. Resettin the clock should be so obvious, how did they miss this aspect. |

That's because not all the AHL arenas have replay capability. It's a financial thing. |

theyre misguided in their attempt to grow the game by attracting the fringe fan and in turn chasing away their original fan base.
cater 100% to the lifelong core fan- and you'll have a devoted fan base for generation after generation. - battelmt
Just so you know, the NHL is the 5th most profitable sport in a country with only 4 Major sports sooo yea i think they need the fringe fans |
