Only in Ontario? - hscesq
It was on CITY-TV.
Long story short (and I'm making sweeping generalizations here) CITY-TV had a "news magazine" show about music: The New Music. Hosted by Jeanne Beker and J D Roberts (and a lot of good hosts after them - including Daniel Richler and Denise Donlon, who went on to be Executive Director of CBC). Note: not a show that just showed videos - it was about in depth interviews with musicians. And it wasn't just fluff.
It was very well done (on a shoestring budget).
CITY-TV then launched Toronto Rocks - a 1-hour video show - for Canadian kids deprived of MTV. It was one hour, 4 pm, every weekday.
That was so successful, they launched MuchMusic.

One colour TV, if the sister had it to watch her shows, we were relegated to the B&W one, come to think about it, it might have been on Sunday nights. |

It was definitely called The New Music. In the '80s (87, I think) they followed my old man on a trip to Zimbabwe with a band he managed called Refugee. Mugabe's gov't was putting on the concert/festival, and after the bands got there they found out the money promised wasn't going to happen so everyone wanted to leave, but the gov't made it very difficult to do so. They aired a whole episode about it.
My dad managed Triumph too, btw. The drummer/vocalist, Gil owns Metalworks Studios now. |

That was a late night show, correct, I remember that. I still think the daytime show was Toronto Rocks. Before it all became known as Much Music.
Love Triumph btw. |

Wow that is awesome about your dad.
I toured Metalworks. It was Triumph's exclusive recording studio. He bought out Rik Emmett when he left Triumph then bought out Mike Levine, now it is one of the best, most advanced recording studios in N. America.
First album recorded there was Progressions of Power. |

And they recorded the song to save the white rhino!
(Yeah, I googled it).
But believe it or not, I do have a Triumph Greatest Hits CD, signed by Gil, which I received as thanks through a work function thingy a few years ago. |
