Sorry Scoob, but that's false. There are 3 columns in the standings. A loss in OT is not the same as a loss in regulation. If you asked me after the LA game, did my team win, my answer is they lost in the shootout. If you asked me the same question after the Washington game, I'd have said, nope! Two way street again, can't offer up a question as an example without considering the answer. - MJL
I didn't say that an OT loss is the same as a regulation loss because I know that the NHL doesn't treat all losses equally.
But when you say "they lost in a shootout" I think "oh, they lost. They got a point, but they lost."
In terms of the outcome of the game, I'm pretty black-and-white. You either win or you lose. What you get for your efforts is a different subject.

I think when you say you either win or you lose, you're saying an OT loss is the same as a regulation loss. Also means you consider the shootout part of the game. I guess it technically is, but really is a breakaway contest part of the actual game?
That ignores the other side of the puck, when looking at Couturier. He's out there against the other teams top line, in that game it was the Carter line, which is one of the best lines in hockey, and what the shot differential tells us is that they didn't spend all game with the puck in the Flyers zone defending, they were able to generate almost an equal amount of shots in the other direction. Certainly keeping the puck out of you're own net, is important.
Interesting enough, in the small sample of icetime, 2:29 at ES, that Couturier played with Gostisbehere, the shot differential was 7 CF to 1 CA. Small sample size, but what does that tell you?
My point is simply, give Couturier more O zone time away from other teams top lines, and play him some with Del Zotto, Streit, or Gostisbehere, and see what happens.
The conundrum for the coaching staff is using Couturier how they are, gives the team the best chance to win. - MJL
You totally missed my point. I'm sure you'll disagree, but you did.

I consider it a part of the game because the NHL does. But I hate it.
Imagine the reaction if Mason asked for a trade for personal reasons. - Feanor
He asked for and got time off for personal reasons this season, so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities. Obviously a player is only going to go to that extreme in an extreme situation.
Making the game "better" for casual fans does nothing in the long run, because casual fans who aren't bright enough to understand what you wrote aren't worth keeping as fans - AllInForFlyers
The casual fans are what is going to keep the league from going into lockout every 5-8 years, unfortunately
You want the team to tank to get Matthews, so what's the problem? - MJL
He's far from a guarantee. That's my problem
Also true fans want the tank. It's the best way to bring us closer the ultimate goal of winning a cup. You remind me of a guy who hangs onto his girlfriend that continually walks all over him and cheats and lies to him. All because he doesnt think he can do any better

True fans want the tank? That's really the most hilarious thing you have ever posted. As far as what I remind you of, I'll refrain from discussing you personally. Here's the point that is badly missed. A team can do better without tanking. Along the same lines of Matthews not being a guarantee, neither is tanking, nor is it the bona fide best way.
You're analogy is very poor. I have no reason not to remain loyal to the Flyers as a fan, which is not the same as not believing they can do better.

True fans want the team to improve. We should be hoping to see progress with BSchenn/Coots/Laughton and hope the young dmen start coming up and learning. It is a year long course in getting better for next season, and if we end up with the first overall pick then thats awesome. The new lottery rules making tanking even worse

If you don't want the tank, you're not a true fan! That's precious!

When did the Blackhawks and Kings tank? The pens won 1 cup tanking. The oilers...
