Scored 20 goals on the fourth line, I loved it.

That's an exaggeration on the amount of heart he had!

A pass doesn't have to be extraordinary to counter a comment that he has hands of stone.
- MJL

"Hands of stone", as I use the term relating to a hockey player, is an indictment of his finishing/goal scoring prowess, not his passing ability. Sorry but most NHL players can make passes like #14's in OT the other night.

I'm not the same as other posters, so don't generalize. My comments are my own, as are my opinions. Yes it was a nice pass, but hardly extraordinary. I never once blamed the loss on Couturier, so don't place words in my mouth either. Losing and winning is a team accomplishment...however, as great as Couturier is defensively, more times than not when he gets chances to score, he doesn't.
- aantny88

Hard to argue that last point....to me for the Flyers to be markedly improved it really came down to couturier and Schenn taking the next step.....both show flashes and most here hope that those flashes become more consistent.

That applies to every player on the team.

So you don't blame Couturier, but every post from you in this thread is some kind of criticism of him. Clearly he's the biggest problem we have - just look at how well the Flyers did and how many goals they scored when he was injured.

- Feanor

Actually it doesn't apply to every player on the team but I'd agree it applies to most of them. I have criticized his inability to finish chances for the better part of his career so far, but I guess reading is an arduous task for you. I can see that this cyclical argument is going nowhere, so I'm not going to waste my time debating it any longer.

What it was, is a false narrative pertaining to Couturier's talent and skill level.

Wow...huge amounts of rage today

Waiting for someone to explain just what more Couturier was supposed to do with two crippled wingers for most of last season

Yeah, I want more goals and points, like everyone else, but maybe the Flyers shouldn't expect those points when they have given him at least one garbage winger for the majority of his time here

I openly mocked.the production Schenn got late last season, but I think it's ridiculous to ignore the fact that every single time they give Couturier two wingers who can do anything at the NHL level offensively, he drives play and, more often than not, points come

Skill level was ridiculous...but your right. He just didn't love the game. Shame.

White only played center when Bellemare was out. I doubt White's back next year, and Bellemare can be moved to wing where he's played before in the SHL and for France.
- Feanor

Oh... you took that like I was suggesting it?

This I agree with....put a natural goal scoring shooter on his wing, and I think he would take off. He's does so many little things well. He looked fantastic in the worlds last year.

And it should probably be noted that if Brayden Schenn wasn't on double-secret Motivation Probation, he would have started on Couturier's wing this season and Laughton would have Simmonds on his wing

That is what should have happened. Hell, I have zero love for Schenn and even I will say that is what should have happened

San Jose should dominate us tonight if they play their game and don't stoop down to our level. They're just faster and stronger than us.

T

Couts isnt a superstar. Hell, hes not even a star. But he is a central and extremely important cog. He if also very effective. Boring.. sorta.

The informed notice. Take the LA game, they'd have no chance to win that game without Couturier, and his role. Not that he's the only one, but he's that pivotal.

Good analogy, actually.

I was thinking along those lines watching the pupu platter of guys Hakstol tried in the middle in Couturier's absence.

Yes, just like with Joe from accounting. I'm talking about the uninformed and/or basic HB poster. They don't notice. All they do is look at the goal total. If it's low, he sucks. If it's high, he's great. That's all that matters to this type of hockey "fan."

how much worse do you really think this team finishes is you remove 14 from the lineup? do they even finish worse at all?

It was certainly noticeable when he was out a few weeks ago. I think they are already a bad team... just not a playoff caliber squad unless they play out of their minds night in and out. But remove Couts... its really ugly. He not only take the hardest minutes on the team (and i really mean that), but he is also extremely effective at driving possession and play. That is a big deal.

I will be honest though, I am disappointed that he hasnt produced more offensively as of yet.

Imho they're going to finish really low with or without him this year. But I also think that's not his fault. I think once some of the roster issues are resolved he will continue to be a very important, albeit not flashy, piece of the puzzle.
