It is. I know he's good, but (at least every time I watch) he takes a penalty like every third shift. Frankly, I'm not all that interested in him. - eichiefs9

I'll trade Hamonic for him on my fantasy team. |

No one is throwing that deal at a 31 year old with conditioning issues. - djamon
Never noticed these issues last game.
Unsure of Buff's demands, but if I was the Jets, I'd rather Buff at 7 than Ladd at 6.5
I'd take him over Dion too.

When he's on he can look like a top 10 d-man, but that's not always. He has had conditioning issues in the past with both Chicago and Winnipeg, it's the reason he's on the block to begin with I assume.
I don't think many would argue that Dion would get a 6 x 7m today. Two years ago, much more likely. I know the Dion hate is strong, but his track record prior to his current deal was much better than Buffy's is right now. |

I admittedly don't watch enough Western Canadian hockey to have a fair opinion...so let's not all freak out if I say something uninformed here :
I'm listing them in order of who I think is most likely a partner with the Isles, not my own order of preference
- WPG: Hometown for Travis, most logical. I would hope Snow pushes hard for a 1-for-1 deal with Trouba, but that's not likely. So I could see Myers and something else coming our way.
after that..it's kind of a crapshoot.
I don't see the Flames moving Gio, Brodie, or Hamilton...and if that's the case then there's no business to be done there. Pass on Wideman and Russell.
VAN has Tanev, but I think would need to add something to sweeten the pot.
EDM I have no idea the reality of them moving Eberle, but I'd be fine with Eberle and Klefbom for Hamonic and something else (Okposo is a pending UFA and won't be re-signed). - eichiefs9
Why is Edmonton giving up that much ???
I agree on the flames deals and I think the jets are in no rush to trade trouba
The tanev + deal is the only one I see

The thing is...he requested a trade. Not demanded one.
He spoke about it today and publicly said that he'll play out the entire season if need be. Snow is trying to accommodate him as best he can, but that doesn't mean he is going to get taken to the cleaners on a deal. He is under zero deadline to get this done immediately, so the Islanders do have plenty of bargaining power. Maybe not as much as they would have had they just put Hamonic on the block under different circumstances, but they still have enough to leverage a deal in their favor.
All it takes is one GM that wants to get a deal done sooner rather than later to offer up a nice package, then his price is set. - eichiefs9
Every fan on these sites were offering up crap for Evander Kane because he wanted out of winnipeg and everyone said Jets had no leverage. they did pretty good. the whole leverage argument is always blown out of proportion |
|
|
|
When players actually start admitting they would rather be somewhere else, and team mates are aware of this, as in Hamonic's situation, it is not an issue at first, but as time goes on it can be.
Maybe Garth will be the one GM that wants to move on from this and settle for a little less? Maybe Garth will take a forward and not so ready d prospect? - hillbillydeluxe
Evander wanted out of Winnipeg while the team was still playing in Atlanta, Jets made the little whinner wait and got a good price for him |

If proximity to home is the issue for Hamonic, how is Vancouver the solution? Google maps tells me that Van is 2313 KMs from Winnipeg. Brooklyn is 2677. That's not a huge difference... |

Fair point. But you did get a little lucky dealing with Tim Murray who may be the worst trader in the NHL. Plus, I don't think the deal was all that lopsided. Myers has been struggling from what I've read. |

The reported teams were WPG and the Western Canadian teams. So far, that's it. I could speculate, but that's all it would be until they reported that other teams are in the mix as well. I would imagine that they won't want to trade him in-conference. - eichiefs9
Minn, Chi and Det are all closer to Winnipeg than Van. |

Again, I don't need a geography lesson. I'm not creating these hypothetical trading partners out of thin air. The reported teams that Hamonic is looking to be traded to are WPG or any of the 3 Western Canadian teams. Until there's another team that he's willing to go to publicly, it's just speculation. |

Maybe he wants out of the states. I wouldn't blame him, those Americans are nuts. |

Normally in these cases with trade requests there is more to the Story. Not taking anything away from the truth of Hamonic's family situation but I'm willing to bet there is more to the trade request...which is fine.
Tanev is not enough for Hamonic. If Snow bites on that great but new will have to throw in something maybe a 2nd-3rd to get it done. Hamonic has much more statistical upside than Tanev. |

Yeah well I live in NYC where bleeding-heart, (frank)face mayor Bill DiBlasio will roll out the red carpet and even present them with a commemorative limited edition detonator and a bag of drywall screws. |

Seems fair, but who are we kidding? Replacing Tanev with Hamonic isn't going to solve the Canucks D problems. The problems are named Edler, Hamhuis, Bartkowski, Sbisa, Weber etc. |

Posted these tweets in the Isles thread, figured they'd be relevant to our conversation here:

LeBrun: "I don't think it's just the Western Canadian teams either. I think Snow, #Isles have spoken to some U.S. teams as well." #Hamonic
