Lol, actually I'm enjoying watching some of your young guns. Some solid players there, seriously. They've made some good picks quickly which should make gillis...redder. |

Small sample size? He's played 340+ games, 6 years and for most of it his partner was Andrew Macdonald. You may not have seen him much but he manhandled Malkin two years ago in the playoffs and was the only decent defenseman we had in that series, with amac and streit who was a pilon against the pens. This guy is our best all around defenseman and a leader, if he didn't want out I'd say he would retire as an islanders, and he makes less than tanev for 4 more years after this. Find me a 25 y/o d that can play top pairing on most teams, captain material who plays mean, has some offense and can skate for even close to that contract. These guys never get traded. - Isles_since_6
It's always easy to over-value your team's players. It's not like the Isles have the market cornered on young up and coming d. Pretty much every team has players in their mid-twenties that do precisely what you indicated - play hard/mean and chip in some offense as well as lead.
The problem, however, is consistency, and Hamonic has not shown that (i.e. what happened this year? and what happened in the years prior to his 'breakout' last year (nothing to write home about, that's for sure). He may have played a number of games during his tenure on the Isle but you make him sound like he's an all-star which is far from it. And yes, I remember him playing against the Pens that one play-off. He was good but it's not like he's been able to repeat that high level of play. Although to be fair, as I indicated, I certainly haven't seen him as much as you have.
The great thing is, that he is still young and his contract is very cap friendly. Other than that, I don't think he's worth much more than a straight across swap with a guy like Tanev, who is also very solid defensively and starting to show a little more offense. |

This Flyers vs Sharks game has had a bunch of scoring chances but no goals, same with the Sens vs Blue Jackets game, which I need some serious offence in. |

It was 2003 one of the best drafts to date.

Point stands, he's got more points than 17 FORWARDS who were taken in the first round, he was drafted in the 7th round for cryin out loud. |

Ovechkin becomes the highest scoring Russian born player. He has almost the same amount of points as Henrik, 912 vs 930, in 335 less games...that's like four full seasons.
Kids good - LeftCoaster
Until he wins a Cup he's nowhere near Fedorov for best Russian ever but he's definitely right there as #2 over Bure. |

I doubt it, he's in year 2 of a 4 year contract, Aquilini isn't going to want to be paying both Torts AND WD to coach another team. He's not QUITE on the hot seat yet, but it is warming up and he'll have to show some improvement by Christmas or he will be on the hot seat. I think this team is locked in personnel-wise until TD so he'll have to make do with what he has. |

Winning a Cup is a team accomplishment. Also, OV scored his 438th goal in 500 LESS games than Fedorov and only Malkin has a slightly better point per game average. 1.174 vs 1.187 |

Fedorov has 3, sure winning a Cup is a team accomplishment, but it's the ultimate goal and you can't tell me that Washington didn't have the talent that Fedorov had in Detroit save maybe Lidstrom and yet couldn't even get to the Cup Finals at least once. I will give OV that he's the greatest Russian SCORER of all-time, but he's not the BEST Russian of all-time until he wins at least 1 Cup, hell even Malkin has a Conn Smythe to his name when Pittsburg won the Cup in '09 but Malkin's not the player he once was. |

that 2002 Cup team in Detroit had 10 guys elected to the HHOF. Hard to compare until Ovechkin's career is over, he's just turned 30. |
