Every game at least to me, it appears that Linus is getting more and more comfortable on NHL ice.
Linus has been a great surprise for me thus far this season.
He already plays like a veteran and is very calm in there.
At least the goaltending is not the huge issue most had anticipated it be.
When Lehner comes back, who do you sit?
I kind of like this present tandem at the moment.
They certainly are not losing them games.
This season gets more and more interesting as we get deeper into it.

You have to sit/Waive Johnson, i would think?
But In reality Ullmark goes back to the AHL because there is no risk involved there. Lehner becomes the Number 1 again. |

I would waive Johnson and keep Ullmark here. |

The Sabres are looking better every game they play. Something a bunch had to argue at the beginning of the season that it would take time and give them a chance. |

agreed. Ocho Cinco has cost us 3 game winning goals by not controlling/freezing the puck in close. youngest team in the league- let the kids battle it out... |

the only alternative i can think of would be the Miller/Lalime/Enroth rotation from a few years ago (which i really liked).
-Miller is your starter.
-Lalime is your daily "in game" backup for if/when Miller gets hurt or pulled, but never asked to start a game.
-Enroth in the minors to keep busy as the starter, then called up when its time to give Miller a night off.
Fast forward to today and substitute-
Miller/Lehner
Lalime/CJ
Enroth/Ullmark
Seems like a more modern, smarter way to do it IMO... |

Johnson seems to fight the puck too much for my liking and gives up juicy rebounds for the opposition. I get nervous watching him. His save % bares that out, think it's under .900, or it was. Ullmark seems poised back there. Johnspon will clear and he can go to Rocha. |

The Sabres have 8 wins so far this season, and Johnson has 4 of them. I'm not going to defend him as some great goaltender, but he is who he is, a capable back-up goaltender, nothing more. You aren't going to get starter quality play out of him because that's who he is. However, he isn't as worthless as people make him out to be either. The Lalime comparisons are simply way off. I doubt he goes anywhere, simply because he's really the lone veteran, and he's shown he's capable of winning games. Ullmark looks like he's starter quality, and we won't know if Lehner is until he stays on the ice for a longer period of time. My guess is that we still won't see him for a while. They'll give him a conditioning stint in Rochester before he gets back in. |

I think the emergence of Ullmark may allow them to leave Lehner on IR a bit longer. Maybe try and get his conditioning back up to where it needs to be. I wouldn't be shocked to see them actually send Lehner to the A on a conditioning stint. It would probably be good for him and it's not like we're drowning without him right now. |

i wasnt comparing him to Lalime as a putdown- i think they are pretty similar.
Side note- why no Eichel in the shootout??????? |

Agreed!
The fact that we just played 2 of the best teams in the league and hung in there with them through most of both games, tells you all you need to know.
Watching hockey in Buffalo is fun again. I'm a happy girl. |

Yup. Sure has. There are a few things in Ullmark's game that could probably use a bit of work. He seems to be reading the angles a bit better, especially when he's to the side of the net. He was overcompensating before and taking too sharp of an angle to the boards. He also seems to be controlling the play better, by freezing the puck more. I'd like him to get a bit more aggressive when guys are standing in front of him in the crease though. A little shove or whatever just to give them a bit of push back and a reminder that it's his space. |
