To all the Giroux lovers, who think it's blasphemy to trade that overpaid overrated captain... Tell me would it really make a difference if he was traded? Like the team would be worse without him. It would free up over 8 million in cap & start the rebuild which this team desperately needs. - Williamc5468

I see Couturier being left in the 2nd line center spot as paramount to the team moving forward. I want to see a LW or RW with speed and offensive creativity bought in to play along side Couturier, to form a better scoring 2nd line. - MJL
And if he continues to not produce after trying to find another better fit for him might be time to accept he is a good 3 line center and find a dynamic second line center |

I'm certainly not against adding a more dynamic offensive player to the team. In his entire Flyers career, we have not seen this kid placed in an offensive role with top offensive players, but yet at 22 years of age, some are ready to write him off as a 3rd line center because he can't do what pretty much no other player in the NHL can do either. |

I could make the same argument saying the "scoring" wingers haven't had a legit shot with Coots as their 2C. It works both ways.
There are mismatched pieces and lack of skill all over the place. I'm not so sure why its so damning to some to want to improve the scoring depth on this team.
Maybe Coots is a 2C and we just need to throw out every winger on this team because Coots is a 2C. Thats just not how the league works. By obtaining an offensive 2C you aren't just improving line 2 you're vastly improving line 3 by putting Coots on it. |

The bottom line is, regardless of whether they add a second scoring center or a winger who is more of a natural goal scorer, that they need more talent.
The good news? Phantoms win again, Straka had another goal, and Stolarz had a strong game. The future has promise |

People who point to the age thing seem to forget that he has over 300 games experience. Couturier should not get better wingers then Giroux so he has gotten the other players on the team and he has 3 points. At a certain point he has to actually produce and much like Raffl or Voracek his putting up 3 points isn't getting it done.
I also don't understand why the Coots people here seem to view his being a good third like center is some sort of bad thing.

Two questions. Who are these scoring wingers that haven't had a legit shot with Couturier as their center. Secondly, what situations do scoring line wingers normally play in?
How is standing up for Couturier and what he is asked to do, the same as damming wanting to improve the scoring depth on this team? That's a crazy notion. I'm all for that.
I guarantee that if the Flyers are ever able to acquire another dynamic center, they won't ask him to do what they ask Couturier to do.
Fans are critical of Couturier for the most part because he can't do what maybe 2-3 players in the entire league can do.

Here's food for thought. Maybe Read's and Simmond's struggles over the last year and a quarter are because they're not playing with a playmaker who can bring the best out of them.
It may sound like I'm bashing Couts, and I'm really not trying to. I agree, Konecny plus at least one more highly skilled, goal-scoring winger is desperately needed. But I'm not sure Couts is the guy to maximize their potential either.
Plus, it means Laughton is the third-line guy. Are you reallly going to get enough production out of your centers? |

This is just not considering the entire picture. He has produced in multiple seasons. Couturier, like everyone else on the team is struggling offensively this year.
Things are being confused again. Nobody thinks that being a good 3rd line center is a bad thing. Nothing of the sort. Some just think that Couturier is better than that. Myself included.

Read was clearly not 100% last year. Having a playmaker and offensive catalyst would help Simmonds.

Does that mean using his age is a valid justification and seeing the whole picture?
Couturier has 3 points this season. It's not good enough.
Neither is Raffl having 3 points or Jake having 1 goal.
I know it's not the ideal everything exactly right for Couturier to produce but at a certain point he should do more this season like the other players who aren't.

There isn't a single skater on the team, with the exception of L. Schenn, Streit, who has been hurt, and Gostisbehere, who has played a few games, whose offensive production is good enough. Are you telling me that looking at 20 games of Couturier, is seeing the whole picture?

Up until the end, Reid always had te Eagles in the mix. I was in Chip's corner when he came in but I am done. I hate Chip the GM and am not too thrilled with Chip the coach either. They were better off keeping Foles not that Foles is anything special but at least they would have their second round pick. they have so many freaking holes. to not address the offensive line for several seasons is a disgrace.
when you are 4-4 heading into HOME games against Miami and Tampa and come out at 4-6, you are a BAD team. - nastyflyergirl
Can't argue any of that, especially the offensive line
