I've thought the same thing. That seems to be a staple of "Flyers" hockey. That same "Flyers" hockey that has won all those cups in the last 40 years.
I would much prefer a guy who had all the talent in the world and maximized every drop of it every single night.
But I'm willing to live with a few highly-skilled guys who dog a play or two or maybe don't work so hard in practice, but make the three or four plays a game that make a difference come crunch time. - TheGreat28
yes...too many "good guys" on this team. The Flyers need some talented douche bags |

I guess the question comes down to what positions do you want replaced to jump start the guys that you do want to keep in place.
I think we can all agree that for line1 its the LW spot.
Line 2:If you are keeping Coots I think you need two new wingers. Konecny being the RW most likely.
Line 3: Can be greatly improved by guys like Raffl sliding down the depth chart into better suited positions to succeed.
It's a tall order for Hexy but he has quite a few guys to shop between now and the draft. (Read, LSchenn, Streit, Schultz) - hereticpride
Stay the course and keep drafting and developing. If this team doesn't straighten out, don't come back and try to do the same thing. Move some veterans out, and add some kids. Don't do anything just to try and save this season. What happens, happens.

We can agree to disagree then..splitting your talent works great when you have multiple players that are marginally producing unlike the Flyers this year.
I'm all for splitting them and planning the whole offense around Couturier and if he doesn't produce after that is done I imagine their will be reasons given other than he just isn't a high end talent. - opeth_pa
There are pros and cons to splitting up Giroux and Voracek. Who said anything about planning the whole offense around Couturier. Are you that against the player, that there needs to be this hyperbole thrown around?

Confidence is a huge issue. As soon as the second goal was scored, I noticed a dip in play. - Jsaquella
Yeah, it was as if they knew they were not going to score more than 2. That's scary. |

And if he continues to not produce after trying to find another better fit for him might be time to accept he is a good 3 line center and find a dynamic second line center - opeth_pa
I have no problem with that, but I think to find a dynamic 2nd line center it will have to be thru the draft, and the odds of us winning the lottery and getting Matthews (who would be good enough to push Giroux down to 2C by the end of the decade)are pretty small.
Maybe Michael McLeod could be in our range, though. |

I am not against Coots, I have often said I find him to be an asset and an important part of this team winning I just don't think it's as the second line center. |

You almost know they'll get one of the top three picks.
I've got to imagine they move down if they get this first overall. Chychrun is the clear choice for them. They already have McDavid, RNH and Draisaitl down the middle. |

There's other options, but I haven't been happy with Schenn's play overall, and I'd try Simmonds with G before moving Schenn to C - Jsaquella
I agree. At the same time, with all of the rotation of players, he hasn't been given his chance either. I mean, Gagner, Vinnie, PEB all given the center spot. He had it for a game and a half or something like that, and who were his wingers?
Oh, and he has to take a seat in the press box, but Read and Simmonds haven't. They have played as bad if not worse than him.
But at least he's got that big organizational commitment they've made to him. Oh wait.
Can't imagine he's real happy right now either. AT some level I can see that affecting his play. |

That's fine, my point is that many have come to that conclusion because Couturier hasn't met unreasonable expectations with how he has been used as a player, and are expecting him to do what maybe only a handful of players in the NHL are capable of doing. I certainly don;t know for a fact that he can be a 50+ point player in the NHL if given a reasonable chance, but I think the signs are there that he can. Even with that being said, if the Flyers are able to acquire another stud offensive center, that bumps Couturier down, I'm fine with that.

Yeah, but they'd trade the #1 to a team with the #2, #3 or #4 plus multiple additional assets.
Theoretically, if they get Matthews and we get #4, do you package Sanheim or Provorov plus #4 plus another roster player (Schenn, Simmonds, Laughton) PLUS another pick to get him? |

I personally think that moving Schenn around from position to position, and from line to line, has hurt Schenn. How can it not. With that being said, he has still been put in far better offensive situations than Couturier has, yet there isn't a big difference in output.

The D prospects are pretty much off limits for me unless it's getting a young Dman in return, which we all know never happens.
If the Oilers are at 1 and we're at 3 I offer Simmonds and at most MDZ or a 2nd. |

Not to be alarmist, but you know when guys like me and MJL say Couturier's 29 ES points from last season were 2C worthy, and other people say nah, that's not good enough? Well that debate seems inconsequential when you realize that the team is in such an offensive black hole that Claude Giroux is on pace for 29 ES points this season. |
