You stick with drooling over 1 player........I'll follow the rest of the lot who are also damn good looking prospects. - ob18
so you're excited after one kid in the minors has one good game |

The D prospects are pretty much off limits for me unless it's getting a young Dman in return, which we all know never happens.
If the Oilers are at 1 and we're at 3 I offer Simmonds and at most MDZ or a 2nd. - hereticpride
I definitely wouldn't do it for Provorov. But depending upon what else is in the package, I'd consider including Sanheim.
Matthews is projected to be that good. |

You mean a 6'1" natural LW who can skate and has 42 points in 21 games.
What's to like. |

pretty sure a kid projected to go 3rd overall isn't rated that high because of one good game |

1 good game? He's been good all season with London in the OHL. Right now Matthews isn't even playing......He's out with a back injury. |

I seriously rather keep the depth and draft the BPA then give up a lot for Matthews. |

I'd love Matthews but there are many other good players that focusing on just him is a mistake to me.
Plus I agree, I'd rather have the depth as well get more picks and take the BPA with those selections. |

Not to be alarmist, but you know when guys like me and MJL say Couturier's 29 ES points from last season were 2C worthy, and other people say nah, that's not good enough? Well that debate seems inconsequential when you realize that the team is in such an offensive black hole that Claude Giroux is on pace for 29 ES points this season. - Feanor
It seriously is about a bad an offensive streak as I have seen..seems like we say that a lot.
If Giroux gets hurt then dear God do we start producing less than 0 a game. The game is obviously played at more than just ES so is the catalyst and the thought of him missing serious team seems like a fast track to the first pick.
I guess for me i still early enough in the season that some of the players can turn it around but I think I'm about done with Read.

Ultimately, they'd probably get a better offer anyway. And given that Tkachuk, Laine and Puljujarvi are also there, if the Flyers could get one of them and keep all of their prospects, it's definitely worth staying put. |

The one thing Matthews does give you is protection against a rapid decline for Giroux, or some career ending injury Heaven forbid. I'm not going to overreact over this year, but it's at least a little bit of consideration. The team has no one even remotely capable of playing 1C long term after G. |

Like I said I'd love him but I won't get any hopes hung up on him because it's no guarantee that happens.
I'd rather focus on a larger pool of players including him. |

it's usually a good thing when many source report one a player being #1 once teams start interviewing players also we get a better idea as well |

What I'm saying you seem to be missing is don't get hung up on just him......as we've seen recently even if they finish with the worst record they aren't guaranteed the #1 pick so why not focus on a larger pool of prospects. |

I don't know they don't get him, but why get hopes up for him when the prospects behind him are also solid........maybe not on his heels but shouldn't just be dismissed. |

I look at it like the Lindros situation. do I regret Eric? not at all, LOVED watching him play and how amazing he was when on top. but one can easily argue the Flyers would have been better off keeping the assets they gave up to get one player. maybe if the flyers were a top team also overflowing with top prospects but they aren't. they are a bottom 6-8 team with some nice prospects coming along. keep adding. we aren't talking draft 15-20. we are talking a top 6 pick. |
