Increasing the size of the nets would be a great start. But maybe the "right" answer might be the hardest to implement. The players have gotten so much bigger...maybe the size of the playing surface needs to increase as well.
The loss of revenue from losing some seats wouldn't be ideal...but eventually revenue will decline further if the game continues to lose fans to boredom. - TheGreat28
I'm against larger nets but I think goalie equipment needs to be reduced. and while I don't want the interference/holding called the way it was right out of the lockout, I do think the NHL is allowing too much. |

There is zero in that statement that alludes to Hakstol seeming like he finds that acceptable. What are you talking about? - MJL

This also makes zero sense, and what does it have to do with your earlier point or Hakstol's comments?

How about moving coots from 2c and putting him at 3c. Put b schenn there. Remove jake from 1st and move him to 2 and simmonds to one.

Why does it not matter who Couturier plays with?

Move Couturier to any line and place any number you want next to him. He's still going to get 2nd line minutes, and play high minutes at ES.

Great point. The 1st couple of seasons after the lockout in the 'New NHL' penalties were being called for almost nothing which ended up creating a generation of players 'trying' to get penalties called by diving and overreacting. The rate at which penalties are called now are a bit too relaxed now though. |

Very good point. A couple of weeks ago I questioned whether the players feel stifled playing in a defensive-first system. No one really jumped on that, and MJL countered that he doesn't view Hak's system as defensive.
I still maintain it's a valid point. Both Berube's system and Hak's system are similar, and these players haven't played particularly well in either. The team was much more dynamic under Laviolette. Other teams have a more dynamic offense.
So yes, the Flyers lack the general talent of those teams. But maybe the system isn't getting the most out of the talent we have either. - TheGreat28

What specific system changes would you make? What specifically about Hakstol's system don't you like. What forecheck scheme would you like to see them play? What do you think about Hakstol's neutral zone checking scheme?

Sir. We aren't going down this road as we are a ways apart. I dont like their D first approach and haven't since they brought in Berube. |

I understand Dmen were getting killed because guys coming in on the forecheck couldn't be held up but I think its back to being allowed too much. |

That's nice but the author is nuts if he thinks Ari would even consider moving Max Domi. He's the first legit looking star forward that team has had in a decade. |

He can still do that and not be considered the 2nd scoring line.
Look, the goals for average speaks for itself. I'm not solely pinning that on Coots but they do need to fully re-assess the lines top to bottom. I see Coots working best in a defensive role, regardless of how many minutes you give him. I'd like to see a 2C brought in that can really bring the offense and allow Coots to dominate in a defense first role. I think that move is paramount to this team moving forward. |
