The only way to win is to learn to win, this is best thing that can happen to the Leafs this year, the only downside is that they did not bring along a couple of young players into this system.

Tanking should not be in a teams vocabulary, I'm even thinking of banning that from the Leafs thread, it's (frank)ing disgusting cheering against your team hoping for them lose.

- LeafMan

i am not saying tank LM... but they should be looking to deal reimer asap

teams would offer up something that would be more useful down the road to the leafs right now for the over achiever.

the kids arent even on the team (for the most part) .. so moving out useful parts that arent part of the long term picture is exactly what the leafs should be doing.

dont bench reimer.. oh no.. that sends a bad message.. but move him.. and keep going as is.

you know that the counter argument is that when he was the de facto No 1, and getting consecutive starts, his numbers were good...it's only when he was told to be a backup and getting 1 start every 10 games with the team playing back to backs etc that he had bad numbers..

I personally have always been in the camp that once James got on a role with consistent playing time that his numbers would return to normal...and now he is proving that to be the case.

cept when it mattered in game 7

the guy doesnt have the back bone to be the guy going forward.. crumbles under pressure.. a bit of adversity.. such as a goaltending challenge for the No. 1 role.. and he folds.

the leafs young players are on winning teams.. how come it only matters in the NHL?

although I disagree about the learning to win thing.

Still time for that.....and I think guys like Harrington do count in this regard.
Willie is having a great AHL season, actually the whole team is

- mykokes

Really like Harrington. Watching the Marlies, Loov and Percy are ready as well.

Infusing some young players would have been the proper move this year, this isn't a young Leafs team. I expect at least Leivo to be up very shortly if they keep Nylander down.

the whole team and coaching staff is to blame for game 7. Hell I was and still am to this day impressed with how that series went. I never expected them to push the Bruins that hard and get to even get to a game 7. to constantly lay the blame at Reimer's feet is just pathetic and wrong. Will his current number stabilize. Yes. But he is a better goalie then you make him out to be.

i disagree

in the playoffs.. as the goalie.. when the team in front of you drops the ball its on you to save the damn day

no team wins a cup without a goalie who can do that

giving up 4 goals in 10mins is flat out unnacceptable.. and it fully falls on reimer's shoulders.. 1 or 2.. sure.. but 4.. nope..sorry.. thats on the goalie.

yeah stop it

reimer is playing WAY over his head right now.. this will not continue

- Dozzer

this is true... but for reasons that should be obvious - I would think you do one of two things

1) deal Reimer now - if there's a market for him AND the return is decent/good
or
2) sign Reimer for two years at a reasonable rate AND dump Bernier - hence the suggestions regarding teams in trouble who MIGHT consider taking a chance on Bernier as buying low right now

What if, at that point, the Leafs are in the hunt for a playoff spot?

Because it's entirely possible.

The Sens are in 2nd place in the division.
And they are atrocious.

At this point, anything is possible.

I would like to see any goalie who could have survived the sheer number of high quality shots and constant pressure he faced in those last 10 minutes.

counter: we had no business even taking that series to game 7. You of all people would have told us to give our heads a shake for even hoping it would go 7 games

counter 2: he came up big through much of that series. In the end we got beat by a better team, ie. the Stanley Cup finalist, and Carlyle got outcoached.

yes - because Leivo has earned a chance.

I would put money on being able to waive Parenteau or Boyes... I doubt anyone picks them up at this point.

what about the 2 previous games where he basically stood on his head to win both games to even get it to game 7... 2 do or die games.

I really dont get piling everything on Riemer.. I mean I get that its the moment that sticks in your head.. but I think you place way to much value on it.

It pisses me off when I come on and I see after a loss "it's great for the tank" or after a win "they can't tank properly". I've had enough of seeing this, it's pathetic.

Like I said, the year is far from over. All you need is some dominos to start falling tradewise.

And yet for all the they can't tank properly talk, they're still in 24th place, 3 points out of 30th, 1 point out of 27th.
