the sabres are in no position to trade for rentals
period - homiedclown
They would sign them long term, like they did with O'Reilly.
Thing is, they could get them for potentially less due to them both being a UFA and not having years left on good value deals. |

In theory yea (although im not convinced byfuglien is a top pairing guy) but as you mentioned this would never happen for obvious reasons.
It's the kind of trade i bet they'd look into though. They've still got assets but the difference now is it's no longer a surplus. The next big trade has to be a home run (or close to it) to be worthwhile because it will put our farm system in the bottom 5.
Edit: Before someone brings it up yes they could go the free agency route but im not convinced the team has the pull to bring in that level of talent. - Sabresfan-365
I get what you are saying about Byfuglien not being a top pairing D, but his production is hard to ignore, as would be his effect on the PP nor the potential at having a Ristolainen/Byfuglien pairing. |

I think the potential would be disastrous. As good as he is offensively he's not that great in his own end and at this point in his career neither is Risto.
For every goal they scored that pair would give up double. He'll also be 31 in March. |

No way we get Buff or Ladd. Only trade I can think of would be an Ennis for Enstrom straight up. |

I think you are going overboard on the they would give up double for what they would score, but I understand your point.
I think he would improve the PP by his presence alone.
In the end, I brought it up not because it would happen but more so as an example of the kind of the trade the team would need to make to fill 2 of the 3 glaring holes in their lineup going forward. |

Right, but you don't have to make a big trade like that to improve what was until a few games ago a pretty good power play. Ideally you'd want to make a big move for a guy who can do well in all 3 zones (or great in one zone and decent in the others). |

Sure there is, but only if you believe Ladd is a top line LW.
Kane is a 2nd line LW, to me, and Moulson is nothing more than a 3rd line LW. - kingcong39
Ladd is a rental
we are in no position to go after rentals

Those kinds of D men are almost like unicorms.
Outside of the draft, they are very difficult to attain.
You either have to drastically overpay, and likely when they are past their peak, hope some GM is stupid, or believe in a player that their current team thinks is not progressing as he should, similar to how Darcy got Briere. |

It would be really interesting to see how he would produce in a system that doesn't stifle offense as much as the Kings system does. |
