Very little interest in the Amazing Ortio? I'm shocked. - Jeropotato
(frank) off! I'm sure if you guys didn't already have about 14 average goalies signed you would have snagged him. |

So one of the sites you're using to refute my argument that both Gilles and Ortio are projected to be average NHL goalies has them projected to be journeymen number 1 starters?
I never said they weren't talented goalies. I never said they didn't have potential. I'm just trying to tamper expectations. A lot of you on here seem to think that they're both elite level prospects that are going to come in and save the Flames. - Hunkulese
See bro, your last 2 comments show elements of positivity. Why does it take you being called out before you add some objectivity to the subject you're discussing. Obviously there are lots of VERY positive things out there being said by people that know more than you or I. But you choose the low road. You're a very glass is half empty kind of guy. But you said perfectly here, "some think that they're both elite level prospects..." Temper expectations, by all means, but be a little more objective, they are just PROSPECTS. Some may think of them as future saviours but they are still just prospects but they have some great potential. I don't get my hopes up because until they show something at this level, they remain simply kids with potential. But why shouldn't we get a little excited about the possibilities? |

Like I should be excited about the possibility that Laurent Brossoit will enjoy a long stretch as the best NHL goalie in Alberta someday soon? |

Yea but, that's how you guys go. Show promise in the AHL, even be a challenger in that league. But, they get to the NHL.....they become just just another barnacle on the anchor that is the Oiler organization. |

Hope so. Kid got cut from his year of WJC-U20 so Malcolm Subban could bring his mediocre play to the international stage. Deserves better.
Hopefully the Oil have their poop together when he gets the call. Wouldn't do it in the near future. |

LOL, where in there did you get journeyman (at least for Gillies)? Look, Orts may or may not be anything at the NHL level, but your 4.5MM goalie has a save % below .9, it's time to give the kid a real chance. It's unfair to judge Orts based on his 5 game stretch last year, and it's unfair to judge him by the 2 starts, 140 total minutes he has played this year. Why Ramo has started 11 straight, god only knows. He played well in the last few, but he put up some average to below average games as well.
Good god man, scouts love Gillies, he was dominant in college last year and has less than a season of pro and has played well so far - the guy may be GREAT, not just decent or good. He may be a bust at the NHL level, but we all know you can't judge goalies at the NHL level until they PLAY at the NHL level.
IMO, the solution to this year's goaltending was to have moved Ramo before the deadline last year when there was some value to be had. Hiller is going to be almost impossible to move with his salary, though I think he should be the guy to go this year for sure.
Regardless, Ortio will get some playing time now in the A, hopefully he has a dominant stretch and the Flames can move one of their goalies in order to bring him back up... |

C,mon dude, name calling is beneath you, ass wipe. And hum, the lock out when you were forced to use the AHL. Wasn't Jultz an all star? What about Lander? Wasn't he the next Ryan Smith? There's enough data to back up my statement.
Hey, I've always liked Brossoit, and I would have preferred we hung on to him. But, st the time we had no D depth and needed someone and trading a 6th rnd goalie prospect was likely a low risk. I do hope he shines, though because I've always like him. In retrospect getting Smid was pointless and in the long run, you certainly may have won that trade. But as you can see with our discussions today, goalie prospects are difficult to gauge. |

We look pretty good in the last few weeks. I think it would be unrealistic as a Flames fan to say that we're bad because we started out poorly.
And the Flames fans on here think highly of Ramo because he played a string of great hockey last year for the Flames. He he gave the coaching staff no other choice but to keep playing him.
You said he had a bad season in the AHL last year when he was chosen for the All Star game. He went 21-13-1 and you call it a bad season.
Give your head a shake. - fry
I also think highly of Ramo. He's by far the best option the Flames have right now.
Not really sure how many times I need to direct people to Ortio's numbers from last year. He wasn't top 30 in GAA or save% and was 18th in wins. How does any of that make you think he's ready to be an NHL goalie. Getting him back to the AHL to finish this year was extremely important in salvaging his career.

He was an AHL ALL STAR last season. Who care what the stats say, he was obviously one of the best goalies in the AHL. That's why he was named an AHL ALL STAR. |

They have him projected as a solid starter, not a journeyman. A journeyman is Peter Budaj, a guy that might keep the crease for a half season and then gets outplayed. A solid starter is an everyday NHL goalie... |

Justin Schultz is better than you think, and Lander was only ever going to be a bottom six guy ( but he is sucking poop this year no doubt). Those are bad examples. Every team has players that were great in the AHL and not so great in the NHL? |
