Carchidi's throwing around the cutting edge analytical stat "Combined Plus/Minus" again in his latest article. He should know readers don't care for that fancy jargon nonsense.
He was writing about the second line and saying they've been not producing lately, which while true is conveniently only half the story. No mention of them being overdue or playing well, or hopefully a harbinger of things to come. Just a mention of their combined plus minus up until this point to indirectly and misleadingly say they've been playing poorly. Maybe his fancy stats just go over my head - Mononoke

what about Hagg? - nastyflyergirl
He looked very good in the preseason and the first few games of the regular season. He's becoming more of a defensive defenseman rather than a two-way/ second power play unit type. Since his return from injury, he's been just OK. Not bad but also not looking like someone whose forcing the issue to earn a callup.

General question:
What players taken in the NHL draft post-2003 (which is full of HHOF-caliber players) do you think would be HHOFers if they stopped playing right now? My list:
Locks:
Ovechkin
Crosby
Malkin
Toews
Kane
Unsure:
Doughty
Need more time and/or hardware:
Price
Quick
Kessel
Giroux
Benn
Subban
Stamkos
Karlsson
Tavares
Hedman
Obviously, after 2009, you'd need more time so there's really only a few years. Just a little fun thought. |

No Akeson? Rinaldo? AMac?
This is obviously not a serious list!

Akeson was never drafted. The other 2 are oversights. |

So Streit, Schultz, Umberger, Gagner, and White are injured. Am I missing anyone? |

No. And aside from Streit, neither are the Flyers. |

Or, on second thought.
But either way, you are correct. Heck the way Ghost is playing, especially on the pp and with how well Medvedev has looked the last couple of games, I'm not sure that they are really missing Streit that much too.

Yeah, but he's easily replaceable. Honestly, the line looked just as good with MacDonald on the RW.

Kopitar, Stastny(3rd highest scoring player in Crosby draft class), Nick Backstrom, Letang, Ekman-Larsson, Seguin.
Hard to look at anyone after 2010. Only 2 guys drafted since 2011 have over 200 NHL points to date: Gabe Landeskog & Ryan Nugent-Hopkins |

Ah, so he's Zac Rinaldo with a brain...aka new MacDonald. |

I don't think those guys have done enough, although Kopitar could make a strong case.
- Stastny just seems like a supplemental player, never "the guy" on his teams.
- Nick Backstrom is a good player, but he's only ever cracked 20 goals twice, and has made a career off of setting up Ovechkin (and for a time, Semin).
- Letang hasn't been healthy enough
- OEL could make it, but he needs to do it more years. Winning a Norris (should have won last year) would help.
- Seguin: See OEL without the Norris. |

They did look good, but White has looked good all year. He's played like he gives a rats ass all year , he always sticks up for his teammates. He also does a pretty good job on PK.

I feel like a jerk for reading all of the nice things people are saying about Luke Schenn defending Nick Schultz and thinking that it had to be good for Luke Schenn's trade value to do that.
