It's really about character, and ethics. The outcome can't be completely controlled so it's not really the same. - MJL
The ends justify the means. If Buffalo wins the cup, does it matter that they tanked and got Eichel? Us Flyers fans can brag about our righteous cup much like we did when Pittsburgh won but that's a little hollow isn't it? Not too many people show up for the righteous cup parade do they? |

They both have strong shots, though, so you'd think this would be a season to give them a chance to develop their PP game (especially with Ghost gone) rather than putting guys like Lashoff out there. - Feanor
Seems like they want those two guys to focus more on detail-work and consistency -- maybe Gordon also feels they haven't earned the carrot at the end of the stick yet. |

The Flyers are building around mighty Giroux but by the time the rebuild is ready, Giorux won't be so mighty any more.
There is a difference between purposely losing and rebuilding yet both end up being the same outcome. The Flyers shouldn't start LaBarbera in net but they should move players whom they don't think will be contributors or will be overpaid for their contributions by the time the team is ready to compete again. - psuhockey
look if they don't have any overpaid guys past their prime on the rosters that front office won't know to do with itself. |

Yeah, it's not a huge deal. But the Phantoms PP has been mediocre this season, so it's not like they would be taking PP time from guys who are lighting it up.

here's my thing: if they wanna blow it up amd get rid of everyone that will get them a huge return, then fine. I can deal with sucking for 3-4 years. I just can't deal with this one foot in the water crap.
However, I think they bring Morin up by next season, and have "adjusted" their forward corp bringing in another center and scoring winger giving you two legit top lines. Now you get a decent one two punch and your defense will look much better, hell look how much better we looked without all the slugs. |

I look at it as there are a million other ways to earn a living. - funmaster18
Does any kid really pick up a hockey stick with dreams of fighting, tho?
It seems even most enforcers had goal-scoring aspirations up until somebody told them they had to start dropping the gloves to keep climbing the ladder.
If we were talking MMA or boxing, I'd agree with you. |

I have seen plenty of situations where a guy drops his gloves and the other guy skates away. You don't have HAVE to fight. I think they should be able to if they choose to. I get the concerns with the injuries and all, but if you play any physical sport like hockey or football, you have to be prepared for the trade off. Fighting today is so much less relevant and common that I'm fine where we are with fighting in today's game. Just my opinion though. I wouldn't lose any sleep if it was completely taken out of the game. |

The future is very bright IMO opinion, it's just that the next 2-3 years including this one are going to be mediocre slop. The positions they need to make a competent 2nd line are seldom available via free agency and come with a big price tag even if they are available as UFAs or even in trade. Contrary to some opinions on here, the Flyers salary cap issues will be ongoing for a couple more seasons. That only leaves the draft which takes time unless you are picking at the very top.
So my preference is that they get aggressive and do something instead of just slowly making the transition. December is as good a month as any to start trading. |

In my opinion they do not. I would probably stop following a team that intentionally tanked. I certainly wouldnt give them any of my money. If I was a team owner, any one under me that even suggested tanking, would immediately be fired. I would not under any circumstances permit that line of thinking. |

Although I like the fact that Schenn will stand up for his teammates, when did the NHL suddenly become the "hard, clean hits require a fight" league? It sucks that Schultz got hurt, but the hit was totally 100% clean, just a hard hit. Didn't we used to like those hits without a player having to fight because of it? - jmatchett383
When my teammate gets lit up with a good, hard, clean hit, I'm not going to say "hey nice hit buddy"
I'm going to rip his face off. Double points if you ring his bell.
My teammates are my family and my friends. You can't expect me to not get fired up because one of my teammates is struggling on the ice after a shoulder to the chest. I'm going after that guy.
Stop over analyzing it. Humans are humans. We're reactionary. Clean hits should be part of the game, but so should stepping in and trying to tag that guy in a retaliatory fight. Not doing so is hollow and shows me lack of cohesion.
I remember I was hit hard and clean in front of our box and a scrum ensued. One of my teammates actually jumped out of the box. Now was that dumb? Yes. But the lasting impact of that is more than the acute 2 and 10 and game he was awarded with.
My team talked about that for weeks, and rallied around that. It was an awesome feeling for me to see the guys go after that kid so quickly.

It is my opinion that the Flyers cap issues are overblown. Which is not the same as saying they don't have any issues for the passive~aggressive crowd. December is not as good of a month as any for trades. As the season plays along the trade market will expand. Team bidding against one another can raise the return.
