The only free food in the press box is popcorn, pop, tea & coffee, water. There's a pre-game press meal, but those who partake have to pay for it.

I've been a season-ticket holder and I know it costs a lot to go to games - and a lot more than it costs in Arizona. But that doesn't explain how Shawn Matthias got a garbage can full of hats last February - in a premium game against Boston - and Daniel got virtually nothing.

The only logical explanation I can come up with is simply that fans weren't expecting it for Daniel. His last two goals came close together near the end of the game—at a time when many were expecting the Canucks to do their usual third-period swoon. I think maybe he just took 'em by surprise.

Wasn't taking a shot directly at you Carol, but I've heard the question asked by a number of outlets.

I don't like your explanation because it suggests the fans in attendance are not paying attention to what's going on, on the ice. That says a lot about the fans who pay to watch. If you are there what the (frank) are you watching?

I went to a Nucks Flames game in Van a few years ago with a supplier. Box seats. The next box was occupied by a strip club owner. He had plenty of guests. I didn't watch the game much at all. Neither did the hard ons in the first 10 rows directly below us.

defending the fan base is becoming more and more difficult.
The in house pricing at Rogers is turning us into ACC west.

I don't like this explanation either, but it's the only thing that makes sense to me. It's not like this is a longstanding issue - it was situational.

I think its a case of who scored that? I have been in the arena for quite a few hat tricks lots of hats every time.

The new personalized goal songs made it pretty obvious. Third time in the night we heard Daniel's song, and the DJ was on it right away.

Carol. Love your stuff and always enjoy your take on things. Week 2 of the Vancouver Hat-Trick Syndrome. I also get that feeling about Boeser. I hate to say it but I also see McCann as someone who will choose to move on when he Cann. Also just a feeling.

Seems funny with it being Rogers Arena. surprised it isn't available as a service to be bought while attending games or free in certain areas.

Prices are crazy there.

Last time I had lower bowl tickets I was surrounded in suits. They were busy drinking and socializing they didn't give 2 sh!ts what was going on in the game. Lower bowl is not affordable for average income people.

Exactly. When I was a season ticket holder our section was constantly talking about what was happening on the ice. Especially during intermission.

I'm sticking with the concept of economics rather than fan disinterest to explain lack of hats.

I do know quite a few average-income people who work for the corporations that hold a lot of those lower-bowl season tickets. When they're at the games, they're jerseyed up and totally into it.

That being said, it has been true for awhile that the wave starts in the upper bowl now. So does goalie-taunting. I think the more committed regular fans can mostly be found in the upper bowl - which is also full even when there are empty seats down below. That's economics for sure.

The dynamic of this team will be drastically changing in the next 4-5 years. Boeser and McCann will want to be here when Demko is developed and getting set for a deep playoff run. If the youth are developed properly and surrounded with the right support they'll stay.

If the relationship is good, there must be a certain pride in being drafted by a team and being part of their future. The Sedins are here maybe for a couple years after this contract. The top line will have 2 open spots. McCann has a drive to prove he can play. He wants to be a factor.

As lefty said, draft and develop, and over the long term, it should work.
