It makes me so happy that I can be excited about game days again. I thought that maybe by now I would have forgotten how awful the last two years were, but I haven't. The fact that this team actually is entertaining again feels almost like a miracle.

Oh, and not sure if anyone else saw, but Edmonton got shut out by Toronto's rookie goaltender in his first ever NHL start.

Granted, it's way too early in his career to be saying he's going to be great, but it's amazing how USA Hockey is developing goaltenders. Garret Sparks was the 3rd stringer for the 2012-2013 World Junior team, and didn't even dress for a game.

Sparks started and runs a facebook goalie group/cult that im part of. His SO last night basically broke FB. ashamed to admit it but i was actually rooting for the leafs last night (ducks and hides!). Kid had 20,000+ tenders in his corner last night!!!

of course, if he keeps this up, he will basically be responsible for bigger nets next year...

USA Hockey in general is really starting to produce some high quality guys. It's obviously not at the rate of Canada, but there have been a lot of impressive guys coming through USA Hockey these days.

I wonder how much Stripes has gotten to see him play. Looks like he's been in the ECHL with the Solar Bears for decent portions of the last 2 years.

I too for the first time ever was rooting for the Leafs. I've watched Sparks play for the Orlando Solar Bears and I wanted him to do well.

He may have went to some games last year to see him. But Sparks has not played here since Christopher Gibson (Marlies young goalie) was traded to the Islanders in the offseason.
