Sorry, but I still say Manning has played better than Schultz the past six games or so they have both played. I'm sure some of it has been Ghost, but Manning has made better decisions and hasn't had any major mistakes(other than the errant pass against the Isles). It's not going to lose us the game to have #23 and #53 paired together again.
Let's give some of the Manning hate a rest. He had a rough start to the season, but has improved more recently. - boxcar65
Lets play Manning in the same situations that they play Schultz in, and see what happens. What were the major mistakes that Schultz has made recently?

I think Manning is what he is. A 6/7 Dman making 700K. Sure he has made mistakes, but he is only a -1. He has not lost a game or won a game on his own.

Your opinion of Manning hasn't changed since the summer? I'm not so sure he should be here. He's on a Danny Syvret level. |

It's a very small sample size, and his possession numbers are poor, but Scott Laughton is way out in front in 5 on 5 scoring. He's scoring at twice the rate of Giroux and Couturier who are 5th and 6th out of 22 Flyers to play more than 50 5 on 5 minutes this season.

I'd like to see Laughton get more ice time and play with better players to see if he can keep this up. |

Voracek has 1 goal in his last 30 some odd games. When does this become a concern? Hakstol has to end this experiment of playing him with muckers and grinders.
If Voracek enters his big contract off a 10 goal season it wouldn't be good. |

Apart from Voracek, their bottom six are AHL lines. Neat. |

would be REALLY nice to see the flyers win three in a row. looking forward to medvedev again.
on a totally unrelated note:
i went to a goalie camp this summer in chicago (for the first time in decades), which was led and hosted by a 22 year american kid named garret sparks, who's a prospect of the toronto maple leafs. last year he spent most of the season in orlando with the solar bears. tonight, he earned a shutout in his first ever nhl game, the first time a maple leaf goalie has EVER done that.
he's a nice kid, who works hard and has a lot of talent. so (frank)ing happy for him right now. his buddy, mike condon who was also at the camp and a great guy, isn't doing such a shabby job in montreal either. he earned himself an ECHL tryout after finishing at princeton after going undrafted. now he's price's understudy 2 years later. and the other guy, scott darling merely helped chicago win the (frank)ing cup last year after basically being thrown off his college team for personal issues and bouncing around the minors.
it's beautiful to see 3 young scrap heap goalies emerge from working their asses off.
- hammarby31
Sorry to burst Sparks' bubble but he played the Oilers. Not an NHL team. His shutout should have an asterisk besides it. I'd be more impressed with a 5-4 over the Blackhawks than a 2-0 shutout over the Soilers

I don't have a problem with Manning as a 6/7 part time defenseman |

I like this
Can we also just go ahead and waive Manning (I really don't give a damn if someone claims him, it's no loss), send him down, bring up Morin or AMac and go with the following on D:
MDZ-Gudas
Medvedev-Ghost
Morin or AMac-Schenn
I've had my fill of Manning, Schultz, Gagner, Umberger and the guy who keeps showing up to practice in the Lecavalier jersey.

I think people are overjoyed to see Laughton at left wing because it gives him flexibility to move up into the line up. I'm not saying this couldn't possibly work but I am gonna say, I don't expect him to be any better than Schenn or Raffl. |

No it hasn't he is what he is. A 6 /7 Dman making minimal $ and not a total waste of money. I never said he was a top 4 guy. He is better than Danny Syvret IMO.

I think he could be a better fit than Raffl or Schenn on the LW of the top line for 2 reasons. First, he just looks more comfortable at LW than Schenn does and second, he seems to have better hands and better offensive instincts than Raffl.

Agreed
Syvret was purely an AHL player who at best, should have never been higher than 8th on an NHL teams D depth chart.

Yep, he has a concussion, his second one of the season (including one in the pre-season) and combined with the one last February that is 3 in a claendar year. They are being patient with him to make sure he is 100% before he comes back, and it still might be a while. |

Poor guy, that sucks. Yeah, you really have to be cautious with someone in that situation. Flyers fans know all about the cumulative effects of concussions. Between Lindros, Primeau and Pronger, we've had way too many.

He has a strong wrist shot so the idea is to put him with the two best passers on the team.

BSchenn also has a good wrist shot, but for whatever reason he seems to be better suited to the right side. |
